I'll get around to all these recs, but I'm lazy ATM. By the end of the week I'll probably throw up a list of some sort, or by the end of today since I've been drinking.
Edit: We've already done Enslaved, so that album is a no-go.

Luckily I'm drunk, so here's my preliminary list. Danzig, Type O Negative, Mr. Bungle, and Venom are non-negotiable, but all else is subject to debate. (Thanks to Mondo for reminding me about Lykathea Aflame, had I known just how awesome they were at the time, they would have certainly replaced some band from the death metal battle.)
Wild Card 1. Danzig - Danzig III 2. Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses 3. Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle 4. Burn the Priest - Burn the Priest 5. Anaal Nathrakh - The Codex Necro 6. Venom - Black Metal 7. Gridlink - Longhena 8. Whourkr - Concrete 9. Deafhaven - Sunbather 10. Lykathea Aflame - Elvenfries

Oh, and what about Today Is the Day's Temple of the Morning Star? I'd post just one song, but it's one of those albums that must be listened to as an album.

Alright, so something I've been thinking about for a little while now. How to do the final battle (i.e. between the winners of all the genre battles). At first I figured I'd just do one giant battle between all of them, sort of like William's original thread. But then I thought it would be more fun to do a full on tournament, with one-on-one battles, and semi-finals, and quarter-finals, and finals, and ****.
Sound good?

Yeah, I think a bracket system would be really cool. How do we decide the seeding though?

Genre compatibility seems most obvious. Slayer's Reign in Blood won thrash, and Death's Human won death metal, so they seem pretty compatible against each other. I'll have to do some math to make sure the bands in the brackets each have an album to go up against, but if I have to come up with a filler battle to make sure they do, then I have a few genres I've been holding back on just because I didn't know if they'd generate any interest. Like goth metal and symphonic metal.

Obviously the math doesn't add up, but I'll leave it up to others to solve that problem for me... hehehe.
[Thrash Metal] Slayer - Reign in Blood [Death Metal] Death - Human [Trad Metal] Iron Maiden - Powerslave [Power Metal] Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys, Part 2 [Sludge/Stoner Metal] Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops [Proto-Metal] Black Sabbath - Paranoid [Doom Metal] Electric Wizard - Dopethrone [Drone Metal] Sunn O))) - Monoliths & Dimensions [Black Metal] Ulver - Bergtatt: Et eeventyr i 5 capitler [Folk Metal] Agalloch - The Mantle [Alternative Metal] Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine [Metalcore] Converge - Jane Doe [Progressive Metal] Mastodon - Blood Mountain [Avant Garde Metal] Zu - Carboniferous [Glam Metal] Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil [Melodic Death Metal] [Industrial Metal] Killing Joke - Killing Joke (2nd S/T from 2003) [Groove/Post-Thrash Metal] [Grindcore] Pig Destroyer - Prowler in the Yard [Wild Card] [Post-Metal] Unless I'm wrong, and I'm too lazy to figure out if I am, I just need three more genres to come up with a workable tournament bracket system. Or five. Please god, not five. I think five. After all the **** I gave the Rock Album thread, please not five. Holy ****, I never thought I'd get all the way here. I was resigned to this taking at least a year, and assuredly more, but I never thought that the thread would actually last long enough to reach the finals. If you're going to take my picture for posterity, make sure to capture my good side. And just make sure that Acid Bath wins.

Alright, while you guys were debating the specifics, I've been crunching crude data. Sorry, guys, Amorphis is out.
3. Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side 2. Carcass - Heartwork 1. At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul Vote 1 off. Vote ends March 19.

Can we just kill Amon Amarth already?
