"War Ensemble" has quite possibly the greatest drum solo/fill/whatever-the-**** in all of metal, but other than that it's just a good Reign in Blood song.

I'd just like to point out that while I think that Reign in Blood was the last time that Slayer was truly creative as far as an album goes, as opposed to a few songs, I still love Seasons in the Abyss, and the title track really is my favorite Slayer song. Because I think it broke from the Slayer mold and perfected their flirtations with melody, while still incorporating hateful metal in a way that you didn't have to pick metal or melody over the other, if that makes sense. It was just the ultimate accomplishment of their career and I don't think they'll ever touch that song again.

I also forgot how ****ing awesome the riff to "Skeletons of Society" is. OMG it's one of the best in all of metal. You could make an argument for Seasons in the Abyss being Slayer's best written album, but I never saw that as being the point behind Slayer. Slayer are about being ugly and brutal and ****ed up. Just because an album is more well-written than the others does not make the qualifications for Slayer's best album as far as I'm concerned.

If one Slayer album is more ****ed up than the other, than that makes it better. Straight up.

The more that you listen to it the more you realize I'm right.

There's also the fact that it was the first Slayer album that I heard during a time when my mother was extremely anti Slayer. So there's that.

No. There are the riff-master tracks of "Skeletons of Society" and "Expendable Youth", the melodic gloriousness of "Dead Skin Mask" and the title track, but the rest is a wannabe Reign in Blood mixed with a bit of South of Heaven. There's a good reason it's Slayer's last good album, because it's the album where Slayer ran out of ideas.

Nostalgia>>>logic bro. Doesn't mean I don't love RIB or anything like that.

It's not nostalgia. Slayer just were running on fumes at that point. They were just good fumes. They combined the best parts of South of Heaven and Reign in Blood to create a better version of the former and a less good version of the latter. And honestly I'd probably listen to South of Heaven first, just because it's more of a unique listening experience as a whole.
