I got a bit carried away, but I wanted to put some emphasis on this.

And even look at the Wiki page. It describes it as Technical Death Metal, Progressive Metal, and Jazz Fusion. I just think Avant-Garde shouldn't be used to describe anything that simply deviates from the genre norm, but to describe something that deviates to create something completely new. Focus is more like Jazz Metal than anything else IMO.

Also, when does the next session of voting begin?
None of the bands you listed were doing anything like what Cynic were. The contrast between extreme metal and the melodic jazz and prog passages were totally new at the time. Edge of Sanity and Opeth were still several years off.

Fu(k this avent garde bull$hit and get on with the grind. I've got a bad cold and nothing clears up my congestion more than a good dose of grindcore.

I had to suffer through the power metal battle. You do your turn.

Lol I forgot you like all that jazzy improvisation bull$hit, jk

I had 2 suffer through power metal 2, as I don't like the genre either, and not for lack of trying. It sounds like Meatloaf & Queen trying to play thrash metal. Unknown Soldiers wet dream

And Cynic are gone, making me slightly less optimistic about the battle in general. Next round...

9. Celtic Frost - Into the Pandemonium
8. maudlin of the Well - Bath
7. Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors
6. Fantômas - The Director's Cut
5. Naked City - Torture Garden
4. Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape
3. Gorguts - Obscura
2. Sunn O))) - Black One
1. Zu - Carboniferous

Vote 4 off. Round ends August 22.

Alright, you two aren't allowed to play together anymore. It's getting creepy.
