Okay, by the definition of the word, they're not wank. Why? Because there are people who like them, making them not totally useless.

SUGGEST ME AN ALBUM - I'm probably not going to listen to it but I will if you bother me enough.

I think you're mixing wank with technical wankery, which is an accusation I would certainly level at the admittedly small amount of DT I have heard. Another phrase might be "look-at-me-ism" They always seem more interested in how they can show off than actually writing enjoyable music.

But prove me wrong: I'll take a DT rec for "Love or Hate?" when I reopen, see what I think of it. Your move...

You could always just listen to a song or two to see what you think of it...

I've heard one album (whichever has "Hollow years" on it, can't remember. Falling into something maybe?) Anyway I was not impressed. So I'm saying to the feline one to give me an album he thinks would best represent DT and I'll see if I like it. When that thread kicks back in again, which won't be for a little while yet...

Falling Into Infinity isn't even close to their best. I think you may actually enjoy them. As much as some people say they are, they aren't just technical wankery. The reason they play harder music is because they want to, and honestly guys, just because it's technically wanky doesn't mean the music is actually bad. When I think of a band that really sacrificed good music for hard music, I think of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. And the bad half of Dream Theater isn't half as bad as the bad half of ELP.

And yes, I'll rec you some Dream Theater. In fact, since I recced you some Tool, I may give you an Opeth album as well. That way, you can hear the big three of prog metal, and decide which you like the best.

Come on, Batty... My Dying Bride has two times the votes for anything else. I think we'll see some big upsets next round.
