I disagree with directionless but I agree with everything else you've said.

Best Dream Theater Albums - Top Ten List - TheTopTens.com Dream Theater : Best Ever Albums Poll: Which Dream Theater Album Is Their Best??? - MetalSucks These ones are just the opinion of one person. http://rateyourmusic.com/list/jweber...albums_ranked/ Pokermask: Best To Worst Dream Theater Albums | Sputnikmusic Images and Words is maybe the more well-known album, but almost every Dream Theater fan will agree that Scenes From a Memory is a better album. The only reason I'm telling you this is because I actually want them to win, and Scenes From a Memory is simply their best album. EDIT- Just a bit of subjectivity: The completed concept of Scenes From a Memory easily beats out Images and Words' pioneering prog metal. Just because an album started a genre doesn't mean it has to define it. By the way, some of Rush's stuff was definitely prog metal, years before Dream Theater was even around. Could you please just replace it? Also, as someone pretty familiar with the genre, I can tell you that Dream Theater is definitely one of the best prog metal bands out there.

Ja bat, an artist's most well known or most 'revered' album isn't always their best. We saw this with Darkthrone in the bm battle. I wouldn't be surprised if scenes from a cheesy album title is much better than images and words.

Granted, this is coming from someone who is hit or miss at best with prog in general, but aside from a few songs and Train of Thought, Dream Theater are just boring wank who do nothing but play rehashed prog that's only vaguely heavier than their inspirations.

The Metal Sucks Poll is interesting though, and may influence my decision. Quote:
Secondly, I'll leave it up to the current prog fans of the forum: Trollheart, Unknown Soldier, Chula, Anteater, and Plankton. If they give back you up, then I'll change it. I guess I'll have to send most of them a PM, since only Unknown Soldier ever seems to check this thread regularly. Considering how few people actually participated in the black metal battle, I don't think that can be really considered representative of what is considered Darkthrone's best album. I like other Darkthrone albums better too, but the general consensus says different.

General consensusers are a bunch of twats. I had always thought that A Blaze in the Northern Sky was their most revered anyway, **** whatever RYM rating you read.
