What Extreme Metal have you heard to give you the impression that it's just "thrashing about on guitars and screaming a lot?" Also, thrashing and screaming can be great in a musical context, and it's also certainly not the only thing Extreme Metal has to offer.

Well, I was a goth in my early teens and used to listen to all sorts of metal. Those videos you posted are not really my cup of tea. Sorry. Not really my scene anymore.

I'm not really clear on the different types of Genres anymore because there's that bloody many of them nowadays.

Who I would have considered to be extreme which I currently have albums by are:

Eluveitie
Finntroll
Ensiferum
Cradle Of Filth
Dimmu Borgir
Epica
Turisas
Slayer
