Jeez dude, resize that pic.

And yeah, Darrel was awesome. RIP.

Sorry on my phone ...

I don't think you will find an overabundance of Dime Bag Darrell fans at this particular music forum.

His lead on the single The Sleep is better then anything by Randy Rhodes.

While I'm not as into Pantera as I once was, I've always loved Dimebag's playing style, especially leads. Fantastic performer too, always played for the audience.

Dimebag's the reason I started playing guitar. Like EPOCH6 while I'm not as into Pantera anymore--I throw on Far Beyond Driven once in a while--he'll always have a special place for me.

Dimebag was great. RIP.

I pretty much love Pantera and everything connected to the band to some degree. You'll find though that they're pretty much disliked on this forum in general, so I'm not sure what opinions you're going to get on Dimebag Darrel;)

General consensus opinion summation then?

Ever since I've been here they've been slammed as representing everything bad about 90s metal..... personally I thought that was Korn;)

The main gripe seems to be their commercial angle and their second rate thrash sound.

The commercial angle is weak as people need to eat and I'd hardly call groove metal second rate trash.

Chula Vista 12-09-2014 04:32 PM

Jeez, I always thought that Pantera didn't pander to the masses - the masses came to them.

They did have that weak glitch to their sound and style. Especially commercial wise, quite mainstream unfriendly.

I will say I've never seen a guitarist dominate the stage as soon as he powered up his guitar and amp like Dimebag Darrell did. I often find myself focused mainly on Darrell alone whenever I'm listening to Pantera.

Pantera doesn't actually have an overabundance of great material out there in my opinion. I don't know where they stand as far as recording landmark albums and all that.

I like about 4 or 5 songs by them, other than that, I haven't found anything else I like in particular.

^ They sold out before they even started playing groove metal. http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/16/24/60/37/smallt11.png

Dimebag Darrel? More like..Douchebag Darrel, right guys?...Guys?
.......... :'(

Nah, just kidding I kinda like groove metal Pantera. I'm not sure how such an aggresive band got so mainstream though, it's strange.

They never were a mainstream band, at least not like Metallica was anyway.

Well, what I mean is, I was really surprised when I saw the viewcount on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkFqg5wAuFk
and: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m7njvwB-Ks

I know a lot of pop has way more, but as far as extreme metal goes, those are a lot of views.
