There's enough decent nu metal out there, but the problem is that it's almost a derisive term the same way that disco was in the 80s once the fad was over with. A lot of bands that are respected avoid the nu metal tag just because of the stigma involved with being labeled a "nu metal" band.

There are some things I like about nu-metal—like its emphasis on rhythm and the fact that it eschewed the guitar wanking so common in a lot of metal that preceded it—and there is some nu-metal I enjoy—like Soulfly, early Korn and early Papa Roach—but even the stuff I like isn't exactly mind blowing and I find that I rarely listen to it these days.

I'm definitely with you there.

Nine basically said what I was going to about this. John was meaning that bands like his, and others that are still around that were once thought of, or are still thought of as nu-metal bands...how they supposedly changed their sound and aren't what should be called nu-metal anymore. John isn't an idiot...but he's not exactly a music guru either. Either way. Nu-Metal from its hay day years, it was stunted from the start. Not a lot of bands cared to sit their band apart from others in the genre. Got pretty boring.

I agree man. But there are a lot of people here on the forum, and outside of the forum in our day to day lives that just say nu-metal had absolutely no good qualities about the genre. They're wrong but to each their own...

I listened to early Korn a lot, early Papa Roach a lot...I'd say that I don't really listen to a lot of either band anymore though, what with my change in taste of music as I got older. You ever listen to Simon Says? They were a diamond in the rough in my opinion, as far as a nu-metal band went. They had some neat little qualities to their music that most other nu-metal bands were oblivious to.

They only ever had one or two songs that I didn't entirely hate. Aside from that. Yes, they were/are awful.

Very opinionated folks. I know of Hoobastank, but they don't necessarily "irk" me like you guys.

Now if you brought up BrokenCyde, I can see where you're coming from.
