Machine Head
I searched to see if a thread for the band existed already. I could not find one so hopefully there truly isn't one. I hate making duplicate threads. Pain in my ass...
Any of you turds here dig the band or not? I think they've become a pretty good band compared to when they first started out. Lot of growth from the 1994 Burn My Eyes release, to the most recent Unto The Locust of 2012. There have been mixed feelings about this band since their inception in 1991. They've been labeled nu-metal before, but more for their 1999 The Burning Red release, as well as their 2001 Supercharger release...I'd even say The More Things Change album too. Personally. They're a favorite metal band of mine. Robb Flynn certainly whined a lot about his real parents that orphaned him back in the early days of the band. But at least the music accompanied with the angst laden lyrics was good enough. Have you any thoughts on the band? A few videos of theirs to become familiar with them. Old from Burn My Eyes. I always thought this album had a big Pantera influence to it. Overall, Machine Head have always had influence from Pantera. Ten Ton Hammer from The More Things Change. From This Day off of The Burning Red. Crashing Around You off of Supercharger. Imperium off of Through The Ashes Of Empires. This was the album where Machine Head really started to mature and refine their aggressive take on the Metal genre, taking a good amount of steps away from the more nu-metal sound of their earlier albums. Halo off of The Blackening. Probably my favorite album from the band, followed close by Through The Ashes Of Empires. Darkness Within off of their most recent Unto The Locust. |
I always thought there was a Machine Head thread, but anyway I really dig this band and Robert Flynn has always been one of my favourite vocalists, his sonic boom scorches when it matters........... but then again I'm guaranteed to love Machine Head as I love Pantera.

I love BME but nothing else they've ever done does anything for me at all. BFE was great tho....

Mixed feelings. They're got some great ****, but they're a band with more talent than creativity, if that makes any sense. Burn My Eyes is seriously top notch Pantera-worship, even if they don't really do much else, but it also gets old about halfway through. I've only heard bits and pieces of a lot of their nineties material, and they really haven't made me want to listen to any more of it. Then with their "revival" with Through Ashes of Empire, they've been doing what they do best: follow trends like a boss. Now they've thrashed up (likely due to renewed interest in '80s thrash) and thrown in melodic metalcore influences, and it generally works better than 95% of the bands they're borrowing from. Still, I find it hard to respect them creatively.

Machine Head does do a lot of the things right that the bands they borrow from, get wrong. That is in some way, something to respect. The guys in this band are brilliant musicians with tons of talent. I just wish they really dug deeper and just tried doing something truly their own instead of letting what influences them drive their behemoth band. I've heard two songs from their new album, Bloodstone & Diamonds. Now We Die, and Killers & Kings are those two songs. Now We Die is actually a pretty crushing, and epic, sweeping track. Here, check it out man. |

Haha, that's funny because when I first heard the song and the violins started in, I was pretty much thinking, ok, Machine Head...ok, just tone it down a bit, you're sounding a wee bit full of yourselves.

This song, man, I just can't describe enough how damn epic it is, so damn good! I have heard the new album, and it is the best they have ever done, Rob was not kidding when he claimed that, not even in the slightest. So damn good! I won't be able to contain myself at work working the freight from the truck, just going to be stomping around and moshing with myself in the middle of aisle and getting weird looks from costumers. I won't even care haha! Going to write up my review and post it soon as I can. Going on vacation. |
Great show in Poland last year!!

Seen these guys play live every year for the past four years and they knock it out of the park every single time, fantastic band! The Blackening is still my favourite album :)
