I personally don't even see why Waking The Fallen was so good, I was horrified at how Metallica-fied that album was. The only release of theirs that I can listen to is The Sounding Of The Seventh Trumpet and it is amazing, hard to believe it was released on a small punk rock label but I am sure they knew they had potential to push some units. As far as them selling out, I don't think they have sold out as much as the record label is putting a big push on them. The life expectancy of such a band is relatively short and they must make their money while they can, given how hurting the music industry is right now you can look forward to more gimmicky bands.

and murder junkie....i agree with what you said. except that waking the fallen wasnt a good album. maybe its because it was the first album of theirs that i hear, but i think it was solid. on everything else, including the statements on sounding the seventh trumpet...i agree.

I like their stuff. Guitars are pretty sick and I love it.

I hate this band, I use to like them, but due to how I feel about members of the band i've started to like their music less. I don't like pre-city of evil its just boring hardcore. I don't see anything special about it.

Metal saviors? Metal didn't need saving, and I doubt avenged sevenfold would be the ones doing it if it did.

City Of Evil is a boring album, that I don't like the solos don't impress me and the vocals are annoying. And yes, I know he just had vocal surgery I don't care they adapted well yes, but his vocals are annoying. Bat Country is an annoying song, I don't like it, its whiny as hell. "No one can save me and you know I don't want the attention", then why are you singing about your drug addiction if you don't like attention? I dislike how much time they spend playing up their bad boy image.

They're very self absorbed egocentric people. They had an interview awhile back where they made a bunch of anti-gay and homophobic comments. Then they have girl on girl action in the beast and the harlot video. Hypocritcal as hell, and I don't care if it was some deep artistic metaphor they were pulling if you'r against homosexuality don't promote in your video. They spend too much time playing up their badboy image, I don't care how much you party or that you got kicked out of a catholic school. Its totally hardcore to brag about your drug addictions, be homophobes and spend your time talking about bad ass you are right?

I like them, they have good guitar parts.

I find them too be terribly overated and full of themselfs and just generally poor!

A few of my mates really like them and try too get me into them but every time i hear them i just dont like their sound at all!

this has prolly been said many times on this thread already but their new cd is nowhere near as good as Waking the Fallen. I've only heard of darkness surrounding from their debut sounding of the seventh trumpet but waking the fallen is definatly superior to city of evil or watever their new ones called. it's cause the guy can't scream anymore! and i mean c'mon, waking the fallen can almost be called a classic.

Actually, rock in general was falling apart. At least in Detroit and the suburbs(ya know, a pretty big music town) they introduced many people into rock again through local rock stations. And as for being metal saviors, most of metal to me is about being badass. For the most part, nobody can say metal is the most musical. Its about going out there, screaming your ****ing lungs out(in Shadow's case, now he cant really scream :( ) and just having a effing good time. Avenged Sevenfold embodies that and brought it back to a new generation.

I have a problem with a lot of metal, i dont think metal needs saving, i think rock needs saving from metal.

I like a good deal of metal, and theres a lot more that i cant stand whatsoever.

I can appreciate the genre and all the great things about it, but most of it is just not my thing, and metalheads everywhere make it their top priority to shove their musical tastes down everyones throats.

Plus they are pretty closedminded, most of the metalheads i know listen to absolutely nothing but metal and classical music... They're not even willing to try anything else, and yet they like to call themselves music purists or experts because they can play a few Zakk Wylde licks on their guitar, which suddenly makes them better than everyone else.

To say metal isn't a musical genre is a very narrow-minded statement. It's basically denying the existence of bands such as Dillinger Escape Plan, Between the Buried and Me, Embrace the End, Darkest Hour, etc. I'll give boo_boo the support when he says a lot of metal bands (and metal fans) just suck. It's mostly due to the whole purist ideals and their inability to adapt and experiment within the genre. Avenged Sevenfold is not a good band, or a great band, or an amazing band. They are generic, and on the weaker end of the spectrum if I must say so myself.

Metal not musical? Wow, i've always thought of metal as one of the most musical rock sub-genres. Screaming your guts out and having a good time is more of punk/hardcore thing IMO and rock isn't falling apart at all, I live near seattle and I could name a bunch of artists from that area alone that are good. Avenged Sevenfold aren't even that good, and they're more talk then action.

Yeah, I have a few metalhead friends and they give me crap because I'd rather listen to the Dead Kennedys than Dream Theater. But it's all good, they'll not get to hear new sounds due to their own closed minds.

The guitarist is definently one of the best ive heard, he has some awesome solos in Beast and The Harlet

Yes but if you gave him an accoustic and told him to do that he would do horrible. Also his solo is the same pattern in different areas, that's how he gives you the illusion that he is crazy good.

Some just play better on electric than accoustic, or vice versa.

And pentatonics are a commonly used scale because they just sound really good... Its not because people who use it lack talent, pentatonics just give them more room to experiement and compose and construct a good melody.

They caught my attention with their music, and kept my attention by being super sweet rock star eye candy. I dont obsess over looks too often, but DAMN!

Anytime a band brings new school power/thrash metal to the forefront of rock radio, they deserve a thumbs up. I like City of Evil quite a bit, though some songs seem like reworked versions of the songs before them.
