I don't think he left DT, he just collaborated with A7X for Nightmare. He's not a replacement for The Rev either.

He did leave DT.

Hitting_Singularity 12-13-2010 10:39 AM

I think Avenged Sevenfold could be amazing with Mike, if he brings some more prog influence to them.

I seriously wish they would put more screaming back into their music, a mix of both is good.. their self-titled used to be my favorite, but after listening to all of their albums for a few years, Waking the Fallen is the clear winner. It sucks though because now that they are a bit more mainstream, they probably wouldn't go back to more screaming for fear of isolating some fans.

TheRavenEffect 12-17-2010 01:23 AM

City of Evil is one of the greatest rock albums of all time and M. Shadows ripping his vocal chords was the best thing that happened to that band. Period.

bullet.for.my.sevenfold 04-01-2011 11:19 PM

I ♥ A7X so much, miss Jimmy :(( Mike Portnoy was a great choice for finishing Nightmare though, reckon it was the best person they couldah got

King_Matt 04-02-2011 10:23 AM

Meh. They're really overrated but they aren't terrible.

Surell 04-05-2011 06:42 PM

They're new singles have been awfully atrocious. Is the album worth listening to?

are you talking about the album Nightmare or do they have another album that I might've missed?

Howard the Duck 04-06-2011 07:07 AM

not really my cup of tea

fans of A7X should check out Shadows Fall for superior music of that ilk (metalcore/mallcore)

the first time I checked out Shadows Fall I didn't like them but I'm willing to check them out again.

What album/singles would you recommend?

The War Within - it's a good mix of screamo and Hetfield-ish vocals - other albums are either or

i think it's mostly because they're more brutal

A7X is just too MELODIC for my liking

lol that's what I LIKE about A7X that they became more melodic over time.

Their first two albums were a bit rough on my ears but I dealt with it but once they got to that City album...I really loved them more.

Howard the Duck 04-06-2011 09:05 AM

it really depends on the type of melodicism - A7X is heading more into a commercial direction

Paradise Lost are melodic too, but it's a kinda ethereal melodicism and I love them for it

that's what I love though, I don't care that it's commercial direction or more polished/produced sound. that's what I like.

I know some people like the more raw live-ish type sound but that's not for me.

FRED HALE SR. 04-06-2011 11:09 AM

I find both bands to be rather tedious sounding. They are both very popular in So-Cal, but way too melodic and technical for my taste.

emremct 04-09-2011 01:20 PM

Bat country is my favourite song

BastardofYoung 05-14-2011 11:59 AM

I remember seeing them for free, and got what I paid for. I do not think they are terrible, but I would like to see them spend less time wanking their instruments and more time playing them. Never saw the big deal in them though, just a run of the mill metalcore band to me.

The Batlord 05-14-2011 12:08 PM

They're better than Seether or Three Days Grace, but in the end they're still cheesy and disposable. Post-grunge that pretends to be metal.

SyntheticNightmare 05-14-2011 09:02 PM

I'm ashamed to say that I like them. I saw them in concert once and they put on a pretty good show although there was a guy in front of me saying how they're "teh best metal band EVER11!" I considered punching him for that remark :)

DavidJNichols 05-14-2011 11:00 PM

Avenged Sevenfold are horrible.

BobLobLaw 05-22-2011 12:33 PM

I love Avenged Sevenfold. I know a lot of people disagree, but I think they're a really good band.

jascol0140 05-27-2011 09:00 PM

I personallty hate them because i just can't listen to them but that is my opinion

pahuuuta 06-16-2011 02:14 AM

I have mixed feelings on this band, for many reasons, I would love to hear an intelligent persons criticism on this band, and how they feel about them, once i hear something halfway intelligent, i'll speak my mind

Unknown Soldier 06-16-2011 04:07 AM

Depends what you view as intelligent I suppose.

In the metalcore genre I`d say they were one of the better groups but in grand scheme of things a fairly average metal group but with the ability to do some good stuff. "Waking the Fallen" is a good album but "City of Evil" was their creative height and I have to say a very good album. Its an album that is crucial to any best of metal albums list for the 00`s. Haven`t heard their "Nightmare" album but the previous "Avenged Sevenfold" album was a very average bit of work.

Howard the Duck 06-16-2011 04:10 AM

they're too commercial for me

i prefer similar stuff like Shadows Fall where there is more dissonance and the vocals are noisier

What do you mean, too commercial? You like the Beatles right? They're commercial. Not saying I disagree with you though, don't care much for these guys myself.

What's your fav Shadows Fall album?

too sugary sounding

The Beatles experimented a fair bit and even their early "poppier" records were extremely noisy for their time

The War Within - before they replaced the lead singer with a Hetfield soundalike

That's weird. Most people say that album was their "downfall".

I personally agree with you but most people praise their first two albums more than anything after it.

The Virgin 06-16-2011 09:06 AM

I got curious and listened to one of their song "Nightmare", and i really liked it. a lot. wow

They're awsome!!

i liked avenged sevenfold when i was 14, grew out of them pretty quick. theyre decently talented but very generic and in the end boring in my opinion.

but i love deadbolt, if your name is insipred by the punk band. scariest band on earth

daviddouglas 04-24-2012 03:51 AM

I wish I could go watch them Live, Synister is one of my favourite guitarists.

cLoCkWeRk 04-24-2012 07:14 AM

Their early stuff was pretty good.

Unknown Soldier 04-24-2012 09:15 AM

Never been mad on the band but City of Evil is a very good album.

Key 04-24-2012 09:18 AM

I am very hit and miss with this band. I've got a lot of their releases and some of them I don't like, but there are a lot I really do like, Nightmare and Waking The Fallen to name a few.
