Here's a difference. How many B-Sides, rarities, compilations, bootlegs, unreleased material has been released from Nirvana? Plenty. Lots and lots.
It all sounds the same. All very atypically grungy. They've never had a 'songs from the black hole' and they never will. Also, have Nirvana ever actually made anyone feel something. Many people point to Pinkerton and Blue as albums that helped them grow emotionally. Does anyone ever look at Bleach or Nevermind and say this is my go-to album when such happens or this is pivotal in my growth as a person? (not to be mistaken with growth in music taste) Maybe I'm speaking for myself but the only thing Nirvana's music causes me to do is roll my eyes and turn down the volume. Quote:
A). Surely if anyone could be suspected of this, it's Nirvana. B). You have listened to Pinkerton, haven't you? |

@Manky
At least in my case, Yea, i can say i relate more to Kurt's style of lyrics than Rivers, it's less obvious and more artistic Rivers is more direct and simple with his approach. I think Kurt was a better writer than Rivers and he also conveyed his message better. but it's like you said, maybe that's just my opinion cause i prefer Nirvana over Weezer. A CD that helped me grow as a teen was In utero, especially the lyrics in 'Serve the servants' "As my bones grew they did hurt They hurt really bad" it's a less obvious way of saying he had a rough time going through puberty, also Kurt was more popular than Rivers, he was a figure head in the Grunge movement were as Weezer was just a quirky alternative band. Part of that was because alot of fans looked up to Kurt Cobain, few fans put Rivers on a pedestal like Nirvana fans do it with Kurt and that says alot about the influence he had on a generation. i don't think Rivers ever achieved that kind of status

Regarding your questions
Yes, i have listened to Pinkerton but i still prefer Nirvana's approach And yea i guess Nirvana did rip off their Loud/quiet/load dynamic but i wouldn't say either band ripped the pixies off, i think they just influenced them a little.

I guess I can see how they might be compared. Easier to contrast though.
I saw them the other night and they played Song 2 which is ironic to me because I was thinking (to myself) that they were a sort of American britpop band (but better). |
