My favorite band over all is Disturbed (actually, it's neck and neck with Death), but I still have a certain dislike when it comes to nu-metal. The reason I see most people shun it is because of it's simplicity and lack of imagination. Even bands like slipknot that have become known as these "Totally awesome brootal metal bands" because of their drummer's extreme playing style still play simple riffs and basslines (and yes, the drumming is still pretty average compared to most others out there). And it's not only the simplicity of the genre that irritates alot of people. It's the fact that because it's easy, alot of people take advantage of it and become famous for it without any of the hard work of creative thinking. Nu-metal opens a door for mediocre players to walk through and achieve stardom without pushing themselves to get better.
I dunno. To me, nu-metal just seems to discourage pushing your limits to the breaking point which is what people should do, musically or otherwise. And I'm not talking about doing a thousand beats a minute lightning fast shredding. IF you can do that, that's great, but if you can incorporate it musically and forge it into a piece of music, then you're on the right path. Nu-metal doesn't have that, and if it does, I haven't seen it. And I won't defend my liking for Disturbed like some fanboy. They were the first band that ever got me into music in general, and there is always something about them. Can't put my finger on it. Call it a guilty pleasure.

and illogical, and perplexing, and blasphemous.
But we all have our faults These days when I'm listening to metal it's usually melodic death or funeral doom kinda jams and whoever said grind isn't a metal sub-genre, can you chew gum and walk at the same time?
