Just one?! Oh well. Regular old melodic metal, black metal, goth metal, and Viking metal. I'll say goth metal because it appeals to me the most I guess, even though I listen to regular old melodic metal and black metal more.

I like grindcore, but I've always been puzzled by the name. Why did they chose the word "grind"? To me the word implies something slow and steady, basically the opposite of what grindcore actually sounds like.

I vote thrash in the poll though, since I probably like more of that than any other type of metal.

The appeal of the music is that it's rough and abrasive. It grinds at you.

I don't feel like it grinds at me. It feels more like it stabs me quickly and repeated with a jagged shard of glass.

Yeah, same with me, except in my ears <_<

I don't like it, if you couldn't tell. My favorite metal subgenre is metalcore, because it can have the grooviest chugs or the softest melodies, at different times.

Meh, I prefer straight-up metalcore, not bands that try to be all thrash (Lamb Of God), and especially not the bands with those gross popcore vocals (Bring Me The Horizon).

I like this metalcore:

or this*:

or this:

*its genre is debateable.

The grind refers to the sludgy riffs on both bass and guitar. Originally Grindcore had the two extremes of tempo. Now many bands utilise the fast blast beats only.

My favourite Grindcore track and a perfect example of the 'grind' factor:

On a side note, I went to see a band last night and it was the same venue where I saw Carcass nearly 20 years ago. The place was still a dump.

Favorite sub-genres of metal for me right now would have to be Blackened Death or Industrial Black.
