Agalloch, Graveworm and a select few others are just great. Apart from that, black metal can enter the region where theatricality means more than musical accomplishment (which I despise). Really, the only "bad" metal genres are nu-metal and rap metal (which I've yet to discern a good band from either).
Personally, I'm a big fan of the vintage late seventies and early eighties metal (prior to the advent of thrash and sans glam metal). Coroner, UFO, Krokus, and of course Sabbath are great.

Coroner released their first album in '87. I personally think that bands such as Mordred and Senser who were among some of the earlier bands to shape Nu Metal are excellent and were an indicator of how good it could have been. Instead we got a huge slew of bands who rapped over a few riffs, inserted a few groovy riffs and proclaimed it was a new thing. Tossers. Both Mordred and Senser had a guy on the decks who was there to enhance the music and provide a spine instead of merely adding a few scratches or beeps here and there.

I simply love the hardest rock and roll ever created. No other form of metal even compares to black metal. If you do not care about the money, join a black metal band. There is nothing as pure as that since the beginning of existence. I joined one because earning money is insubstantial, and I love that hardcore underground sound. It's what I love to do, and if little "metalheads" weren't so controlled by money, they would love black metal as well. But the fact that everyone hates it, makes me love it that much more.
I despise that orchestrated garbage though. I like it either 100% orchestrated, or 100% raw and grindy. NOT having both entwined together, like most self-proclaimed "black metal" bands do today. The most popular BM band that actually kept it brutal and doesn't suck is 1349. The conclusion is, if your goal is to attain money, join a death metal band.

Well they were a little more progressive than many bands around at that time but they were tagged as a Thrash band. I could never get on with Krokus though. UFO were under rated. Good call.

One of the worst films ever and I like trashy films. Dani seems so anti system but he sends his kids to private schools. He's a knobhead.

Actually, I have seen that movie. The sound effects were so stupidly over the top it made the movie hard to take seriously even for a low budget film. Cat innards shouldn't sound like rubber bands.
