Default R.I.P. Dave Brockie

One guy who deserves a thread of his own in wake of his death.

Gwar Frontman Dave Brockie A.K.A. Oderus Urungus Dead At 50 - Blabbermouth.net

Not what I expected to wake up to today. Wow.

Me neither, and it really made me upset.

I followed his posts on facebook a lot. I enjoyed reading what he posted. He was one the friendliest people on there. Answered a few questions I had from time to time.

Waking up and reading it, I honestly thought it was one of those internet death hoaxes. I had to look it up.

I am glad I got to see them a few times growing up. Always some of the best shows ever.

For the last couple of years it seemed I had always gotten sick or something whenever GWAR came through town, but because they came every year I'd always say "well I can always go see them next year"... now I can't...

I saw them in 1991, in a club, during their "Scumdogs of the Universe" tour. I knew what to expect, so I wore an old T-shirt and an old pair of shorts to the show. Got covered head to toe in various fluids spewn out into the audience from the stage! One of the funniest moments during the show, occurred at the start, when some of the band members spotted three well dressed couples (the men were wearing suits and the women were wearing dresses and jewelry) standing near the right of the stage, trying to avoid getting hit with any liquids. Needless to say, they weren't successful in trying to stay dry afterwards and they didn't stay for the rest of the show.

I saw several people move further to the rear of the club, in a futile attempt to stay away from the spew. There was no escape! The band even brought out a catapult and filled it with fake poop and shot it into the audience. The turds would splatter and skip off the heads of people in the crowd like stones being skipped across water.

By the time the show ended, I looked like I'd just been in a horrible, bloody accident or I'd just butchered a large animal.

Good times!

I remember the first time he responded to me on facebook. I asked him about Empire Records, and why his voice was overdubbed.

He just told me

"I refused to do the stupid lines they had so they just took out my voice and put in what they needed. I had no idea until I saw it!"

Also interesting to note that Dave Brockie died on the day El Duce was born, seems like a shock rock 360 there.

Kinda funny, cause the one time I saw them I was sick as a dog, but I'd already bought the ticket and couldn't get rid of it even by offering to give it to someone who was already coming, so I went anyway just to not waste almost thirty bucks. Good show all things considered.

I saw the exact same tour at The old Galaxy theater venue. I remember them bringing a guy dressed as a priest onto the stage and screwing him with a large fake ***** and then turning to the crowd to spray them with the residual residue. Quite a spectacle. LOL I always liked GWAR and their crazy stage antics. Definitely gonna miss them if they choose to hang up their instruments and ride on into the sunset. RIP Brother.
