Who Does Rock Music Better? US or UK

A debate that will rage on that we can bring to these boards for a long time. Who does rock music better the U.S or the U.K?

Hendrix, Nirvana, Guns N Roses and Ramones or Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Beatles and Queen.

You can throw some metal in there too born out of rock but who comes out on top?

I tried this game with a few friends Ultimate Rock Battle and we came down to conclusion UK make better bands Us better solo artists.

I suggest Youtube be used to remind yourselves of the best from each band and beer helps too.

With all the due respect, this forum is crammed with "the best this, the best that, who's better: this or that? who's the best etc etc" ...
Isn't all this somewhat inane? There might be some other way of putting forward these kinds of threads.

Isbjørn 02-06-2014 08:17 AM

I don't think it can be decided. There will always be good artists from both sides of the Atlantic, and there's no point in trying to count them all. Besides, who decides which artists are good and which ones aren't? It's all subjective.

RoxyRollah 02-06-2014 08:37 AM

Is this actually a debate...?

Try, which do you prefer for a next header....

I am as rebellious as the next colonist I assure you...But the Uk has always rocked my world harder then, the US... I seem to be able to relate more to it I dunno why and I don't frankly care...Give me a sad British pop record, any day of the week.... Uk does it better baby...

Isbjørn 02-06-2014 08:42 AM

But I don't think the brits have any emo bands.

RoxyRollah 02-06-2014 08:45 AM

Hell do you need Emo for?

I agree with this plus we have had this discussion before already. I would post the thread but I am not at home to look it up easier.

Isbjørn 02-06-2014 09:19 AM

You said you like to listen to sad songs so it makes sense.

RoxyRollah 02-06-2014 10:34 AM

I am sorry I am still having trouble accepting it as a genre....
or what that even means... Emo? I equate it with acne riddled teenagers that haven't graduated on Joy Division, The Smiths, and every other amazeball UK artist...

Funny you mention those artists because they are directly the influence used by the originators of the genre.

Those artists are only listened to be hot topic wanna be mall goths so you are in good company.

You're missing out on a seriously amazing genre by having this shallow view of what emo music is, my dear.

Have you really never heard Brand New? I strongly suggest you at least give "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me" a chance, and if you don't like it then that's totally fair!

Actually the biggest influence on the originators of emo was hardcore, since emo started life as a subgenre of hardcore and was short for "emotional hardcore".

Any of first 3 brand new albums

Most emo purists prob don't consider them emo but whatevs. Part of them is I think

YorkeDaddy 02-06-2014 04:53 PM

Brand New definitely has emo elements, and they're definitely where you should start as they're pretty accessible too.

yeah I was just spouting shit. I don't really know the origins of Emo but good to know and thanks for correcting me.

IvanMC 02-06-2014 10:37 PM

And there're supreme metal bands from some other places: Angra, from Brazil; lots of good ones from Germany, Finland, etc etc... Rush from Canada...
Anyway, "what's better, this or that?" "Who's the best...?" ... dismal threads

You should hear Diary by Sunny Day Real Estate. It's great, and one of the most influental emo albums released. You will have a good idea of what emo is after listening.

Puffnstuff 02-08-2014 07:38 AM

Personally I think the best symphonic metal bands come from across the pond aka Europe. The one thing that I love about music is how a region influences the style which is why we have so many different varieties and sounds to choose from.

Dylstew 03-09-2014 04:12 AM

I don't even know where 90% of the bands I listen to are from.

How's that even possible?

1st post; hopefully more to come.

From my experience ... old head here ... Americans always seem to be the originators but UK artists refine it and vastly improve it.

I dunno, I just hear of a band, look up their discography, and that's it. Sometimes I try to remember the name of the frontman.
Don't ask how I listen to most of my music....
I think I should spend some more money on music and less on video games. But Video games get on sale all the time(Steam, gog, humble bundle, green man gaming, etc), and music doesn't :c.

I'm sacrificing it to a bunch of godly pirates that forced me to work on their ship..stealing things to sacrifice for them.

Pet_Sounds 03-09-2014 06:45 AM

For my favourite era, the '60s:
UK: Beatles, Roling Stones, Kinks, The Who
US: Beach Boys, Byrds, Doors
I didn't know where to put the Jimi Hendrix Experience, as Hendrix was American, but the rest were British.
Those are just my favourites of the era, not necessarily the "best" overall. I'll take the Brits.

Puffnstuff 03-09-2014 02:00 PM

If forced to choose an artist by way of origin I'll take the Dutch hands down. All of my most favorite bands come from the Netherlands.

juan_mccoy 03-10-2014 01:59 PM

Its UK, the legends but as you said, the great legendary bands are from UK and great Solo Artists from US, these are countries incomparable each other, but for me Its UK.

Wut? Can you send me some? I live there, but I only listen to 1:Vitamin X, A thrashcore/hardcore punk band xD. I've also listened to a bit of Doe Maar, mostly a ska band, I think i'd put it in the 2 tone catagory, but it's mixed with a certian dutch pop style at the time. Other than that I dislike most dutch music I've heard, maybe because I never really listened to a dutch rock band? Who knows.

Puffnstuff 03-11-2014 04:45 AM

Well my most favorite bands, all Dutch, are After Forever, Within Temptation, Stream Of Passion, Epica and Delain.

Annie1 03-12-2014 05:18 PM

I will have to go with the UK on this one. Much more talent there I think. And also Def Leppard came from there:)
