US: Beach Boys, Byrds, Doors
I didn't know where to put the Jimi Hendrix Experience, as Hendrix was American, but the rest were British.
Those are just my favourites of the era, not necessarily the "best" overall. I'll take the Brits.

If forced to choose an artist by way of origin I'll take the Dutch hands down. All of my most favorite bands come from the Netherlands.

Its UK, the legends but as you said, the great legendary bands are from UK and great Solo Artists from US, these are countries incomparable each other, but for me Its UK.

Wut? Can you send me some? I live there, but I only listen to 1:Vitamin X, A thrashcore/hardcore punk band xD. I've also listened to a bit of Doe Maar, mostly a ska band, I think i'd put it in the 2 tone catagory, but it's mixed with a certian dutch pop style at the time. Other than that I dislike most dutch music I've heard, maybe because I never really listened to a dutch rock band? Who knows.

Well my most favorite bands, all Dutch, are After Forever, Within Temptation, Stream Of Passion, Epica and Delain.

I will have to go with the UK on this one. Much more talent there I think. And also Def Leppard came from there:)
