Jimmy was a notorious chicken hawk and, like the man said, it was a different time. Bill Wyman 'cultivated' his 14 year old girlfriend until she was old enough to marry.
Doesn't excuse it but if you started excluding every artist from your life that had what society deems as F-d up proclivities, you would have to exclude a lot of artists. It's an age-old debate - can you separate the person from their work? In some cases, I can, but in others, no. In the case of Jimmy and Bill, I wouldn't expect them to be anything but decadent rock stars. |

Lori Maddox discussion
Not to throw the race card into things, but in the US it is a relevant matter. I do not have knowledge of Ms. Maddox's racial background, but could it be that being of mixed race or even being someone with a darker complexion the entire matter was just swept under the rug? Led Zep was an enormously successful band, didn't rock the boat at all politically and made money and made merry. There was no reason to seek him out. Had Ms. Maddox been the blonde-haired daughter of someone powerful Pagey might have written some moving songs from inside Folsom prison. I've read various accounts, from her being not only kidnapped but forcibly held for years, against her will. Peter Cole, Zep's old tour manager, is accused of procurring her on behalf of Page, thus protecting him from legal issues. Only the two of them know for certain what really happened. At any rate, something did happen, and there was no consequence for JP, although now the Net is abuzz with questions.

This is a very ill-informed account. How about we hear from Lori Maddox herself?

Jimmy kidnaps girls, John lennon is a wife beater and Cher is a Racist.
Is it true? who cares? it makes for a good story. i gotta say, i never got this lolita fascination some guys have They're such easy targets and are so impressionable i feel they're taking advantage of them. i see this sh*t in real life, there is a school nearby where i live and outside of the school i always spot guys in their mid 20's parking their cool cars in front and groups of girls flocking to them cause they are Oh-so-cool~ I've even seen them flaunt the girls with a proud looks that says "She's hot isn't she?" yea but she's 14 and you're 26, you're old enough to be her big brother you sick F*ck. Maybe im being overly critical but that's really not my thing, i prefer Milfs over lolis

Yea i saw the vid (Good one btw) And if you notice around 0:59 Lori was about to say "First of all, i was still a Virgin" but instead of saying 'Virgin' she says 'Baby' and the way she says it reflects she acknowledges she was very naive at that age.
And even if that was the new in thing to do at the time i don't think that's a valid excuse for justifying picking up under aged girls from a magazine like it's some lolita catalogue but just cause he is jimmy page he can get away with it. This personally bothers me however im not gonna blow it out of proportion cause in some cases the guy really falls in love with the girl and could even end up marrying her with neither party regretting their decision later on life but when guys use these young girls just for sex and take advantage of how impressionable they are that really bothers me.

Yeah, I don't know the cultural climate of the '70s and how pedophilia and pederasty was viewed, so I can't really make the same accusation toward him or Steven Tyler that I could about someone in this day and age, but someone that young and immature is clearly not capable of living as a functioning adult, as I imagine they would have to to live that kind of lifestyle. I have to imagine that Jimmy would basically have had to act like her father---keeping her fed, making sure of her travel plans, dealing with normal teenage "stuff" that a parent would otherwise be responsible for. I'm sure he had handlers for much of that, but he couldn't have been ignorant of the kind of girl he was dealing with, and to be able to have that kind of relationship with a girl like that, and a sexual one at the same time, is predatory, even if he wasn't aware of it. Given how prevalent this kind of thing seemed to be, I'm going to chalk it up to rock star super-ego warping his sense of reality rather than necessarily being manipulative to the point of being a sociopath, but still, that's not okay in any way, shape, or form.

Hey, don't get me wrong, if she had been my daughter at the time I would have wanted to gut the guy.
Jimmy actually asked to meet Lori's mom and got her permission for Lori to travel with the band. Still doesn't make it right. She sure liked the lifestyle at the time. But she admits the only rocker she ever fell in love with was Pagey.

Honestly, his girlfriend at the time bothers me more than he does. At least he has the excuse of being a rock star living in La La Land, which seems to mess with the common sense of all but the most grounded individuals. But given that she seemed to be in much the same situation as the girl, I'd think that she'd have a clearer picture of what was what and should have intervened. I don't know if she just accepted it and internalized the rock star logic cause she wanted to keep up her lifestyle, or she was (is) a dumb party girl completely out of touch with reality by nature. Clearly from that last pic---if that's the same girlfriend from the vid, and she does look like her---she not only accepted the arrangement, but "joined in the fun" too.

This is a pretty great read if you want to step into the way back machine and get a feel for what SoCal was like during the late 60s, early 70s. And she's remained friends with the guys to this day.
