John Entwistle (The Who) vs John Paul Jones (Led Zep)
I think I personally choose JPJ

Both are great but I choose Entwistle. I like Who a bit more than Zeppelin, and The Ox's basslines are one of the nest ever, for example on Quadrophenia. But both are among the best bassists ever, no doubt about it.

I need more info. Is this strictly bass playing or as an all around musician? JPJ basically wrote most of In through the out door, played some mean keyboards in zep, played mandolin. For stricly bass I go with the ox. For all around I go with JPJ.

I said the same thing about the Entwhistle/Flea thread. They're both outstanding and the question is kinda silly IMO. It's like asking whether you'd rather have German chocolate cake or dutch apple pie, either choice is damn tasty.

That's true too. But I agree with Moss. As a musician, JPJ was better because he played many instruments and arranged and produced and god knows what.
As a bassist Entwistle is a bit better, at least I like him more & and I like Who a bit more than Zeppelin, but like Paul said, it's a tough choice anyway. Both are included in my top 5 list of bass guitarists, anyway. |
Screw Led Zeppelin, This was the best album John Paul Jones ever recorded.
|
^ I realize we have a difference here as I like Zep, and JPJ is my favorite member, but I really like his solo albums. The only one I ever owned is Zooma, but somewhere along the lines, probably sometime during my drinking years, I lost it. I lost a LOT during those years.
*edited to add: it was released in '99 and my last drink was in '95, so it wasn't during my drinking years |
I knew someone would slam in through the out door if I mentioned it but I love that album.
