My fave is probably either "Rearviewmirror", "Not For You" or "Footsteps". Vs. is my fave album, though. Oh, and I have the live version of "Release" that opened the Toronto show I was at a few years ago, and it's unbelievable.

Pearl Jam's upcoming album: people's hopes?
Their last album. Self-titled/Untitled/the Avocado Album/Avocado, etc. whatever you refer to it by or consider it, was decidedly harder rock than their last couple of outings. I think it works very well, though I wasn't a fan of the much more static-y electric guitar work on tracks such as World Wide Suicide and to a lesser extent, Life Wasted.
My favorite tracks were "Gone" and "Come Back". I really hope their new album is more along the lines of those two tracks (though I LOVE Life Wasted. WWS never really grew on me like the rest of the album) Anyway, what are other PJ fans' hopes for their new set? |

Something with a slightly more odd / experimental edge to it... say a bit more like Vitalogy or No Code. It's time they mess around with their sound again.

Anybody catch Pearl Jam on Conan?
I love PJ. Always have. They have very few songs that I'm not fond of and just about none that I hate. AND you can always count on them to be great live. Having said that...They SUCKED. That songs lyrics felt uninspired and weak and Vedder's vocals were just plain crap. He sounded hoarse and I felt like they were shredding on the guitars to mask his subpar vocals. I hope it was just a hiccup and not an omen of things to come.
What did you guys think? |

Yeah I was pretty pumped for it but was greatly disappointed, it sounded like Eddies mic wasn't working properly.
My grandmother watched with an odd expression, "you like this stuff?". I had to tell her "well they were a lot better in the 90s". |

Well that sucks to hear... I always kinda prized Pearl Jam as a better than record live band, and the bootlegs I have kinda bore out that reputation... they really don't wanna start sucking live... they've always been a live act sorta band.

Pearl Jam are a good live band, I have their 7 disc set 'Live At The Gorge' to prove it. Sure enough, they were much better in the 90s with albums such as 'Yield' (my favourite) , 'V.S', 'Vitalogy' (which is worth buying for the weird encyclopedia inside the booklet alone) & 'No Code'. I agree the albums 'Binaural' & 'Riot Act' are probably their two weakest but they are not bad albums if you dont compare them to their previous work. I also thought that the self titled album from 2006 or so 'Avocado' or whatever people call it, was very very good from start to finish & most definitely their best since 'Yield'. I have heard they have a new album coming out this year or something? Im pretty looking forward to it, Im a pretty big fan so havent been disappointed with them at any point really.
As for 'best' Pearl Jam song, jeez theres so many to choose from. 'Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town' & 'Rearviewmirror' both come to mind though. The first two tracks that got me into Pearl Jam were 'Alive' & 'Even Flow' from the 'Ten' album which I don't rate. |
