There's a dramatic difference between Morningrise, and MAYH. My God!! They just got Martin Lopez from Amon Amarth and went for a much heavier sound. Furthermore, Ghost Reveries sounds nothing like MAYH. If Opeth hasn't demonstrated developement betweens albums, then nobody does.

Ghost Reveries, Watershed, and Blackwater Park are great albums. Watershed is definitely my favorite.

Lmfao. The fact that Opeth doesn't get more attention here on MusicBanter is absolutely astounding. Or maybe its a sin. Talent, consistency, and the capacity to continually improve and progress...Opeth's proved they have all this in spades since the early-mid 90's to now over 9 freakin' albums, yet it seems nobody around here with any say seems to acknowlege them.

What. A. ****ing. Shame. = /

Opeth really are a forgettable band. Its almost like their progressive for the sake of being progressive. All Opeth focus on is progressive elements in their music, making the death metal part of it boring. Aggression is non-existent.

lmao. And who exactly is or was ever progressive for OTHER than the sake of being progressive?

Other than that, your summary of Opeth is as terrible as it is false. I understand not liking Opeth, I mean, I have plenty of problems with them, but the idea that they only focus on 'progressive elements' to the neglect of the actual metal and aggression is nonsense and indicates not having listened much to their material.

You say this as if the band members sat at a round table and decided that they would adopt prog death as a genre and pour exactly 50% of their efforts into each direction. As soon as you start placing expectations on a band based on a genre-tag, then genres are hindering your enjoyment. Metal fans in particular have problems with this.

He's a Death Metal fan and seems to be exclusively so. What do we really expect? Just another example of a narrow minded metal head.
