My fav black metal release so far is Mandragora by Botanist. It's one of the most interesting black metal albums from the decade as it doesnt even have any guitar on the album. Instead he uses a dulcimer along with Inquisition-esque vocals. It's really quite great and a step above his previous releases imo
Also along with some of the previously mentioned albums, Ive really enjoyed: Das Tor by Paysage D'hiver Anarchic by Skagos Cypher by Spektr Astral Glow by Zgard Its been a pretty good year for black metal i say |

The Akitsa/Ash Pool split was pretty wonderful, "Ne Perdez Jamais Espoir" being my favorite song from that release. (edit) As for biography; Ash Pool involves the talents of Dominick Fernow, of Prurient, Vatican Shadow, & the operator of Hospital records. Akitsa, of course, are the mighty French-Canadian group whose O.T. operates Tour-de-Garde (a fantastic label).
