Sheer is a pretty kick ass band with a chick singer. Hard to find though.

Joan Jett, while not blessed with great range, certainly has a powerful voice. She isn't a 'singer' in the classic sense of the word.

I am surprised no-one mentioned Pat Benatar. She has incredible range, and sings each note with authority.

BTW, I forget who mentioned Heart, but Ann Wilson sings with the same power as Benatar, only with a little less range. Nancy Wilson, Ann's sister, also sings, but she isn't nearly as accomplished, or powerful, as her sister.
