I don't know where people are getting this idea of Nirvana being around for album after album from.

In Utero had all the hallmarks of a final album, I remember the interviews that Cobain was giving at the time. Once the album was out and they were on tour all Cobain would talk about is that he wanted to work with other people and was excited to be starting a new project with Michael Stipe.
He was pretty much done with Nirvana.

Not only that I don't really see Grohl playing second fiddle to Cobain for much longer than he did and it's obvious that they were both going in different directions Cobain wanted to be more obscure & Grohl wanted to be commercial & radio friendly.

Even if Cobain hadn't died you wouldn't have anymore Nirvana albums.

I am not sure if you read the "diaries" courtney love released that Kurt wrote, but I think their was no way he wouldnt have died. He talks about suicide many times in the writings and even says one time he laid on a train track for hours and the train never ended up coming. he also talks about shooting him self with a shotgun and how easy it would be.

Regarding Grohl and Cobains directions I think you are completely correct. Grohl would have probably still been in the Foo or at least a similar project. Although what ever Cobain did next sure would be interesting. What I would give to see what he could have made.

I remember when I heard that Cobain had died, I had a similar feeling that I did when Amy Winehouse died.
It was a kind of feeling that you knew things wouldn't carry on the way they had for much longer and that 'something' was about to end, and it was more of a relief it was over than it was a shock.

I can't imagine seeing Hendrix in the 60s and having my mind utterly blown, then seeing him die while forming the Band of Gypsies and starting to make some of the craziest music ever written.

Just curious (I was too young to really remember well) if you remember exactly where you were when you heard the news, and how you found out. (regarding Nirvana)

I'd just finished my weeks work around 5.30 on the friday and walked home, just as I got in the house my mother called me into the living room where she was watching it on the news and she said something like 'Don't you have some of his records?'.
So I told her I did, watched the news for about half an hour then went off to go start my weekend.
Like I said, I wasn't all that surprised by it.

I was 6 or 7 years old when Kurt Cobain died, but my mum was a huge Nirvana fan. I have really early childhood memories of her playing In Utero while doing the housework. So I still remember the day it was all over the news, with my mum watching. One of those inevitable things I guess, like Rez said...

I barely remember anything before the age of like 12. I dont know how people remember so much from being a little kid.

I remember lots before the age of 12! I think I can go back to about 4 years old but not much before then...
