The Body
A Metal band who caught my attention by naming their newest EP Master, We Parish. I'm caught in a chuckle every time I see it. Their single album titled is titled, with equal wit, All the Waters of the Earth Shall Turn to Blood. They're a noisy bunch, putting gritty, home video style reverb on everything, including screeching; this is reflected well in their videos which i will post below. They are usually identified with Doom, which is true for the most part, and people throw an "Avant" at the front because it's a little out there, with lots of found sounds, super super stripped down or distorted style, entire sections of feedback and noise, choral accompaniment, and much much more (especially rambling vocal samples) - but they also transcend that with speedier, less sludgy compositions which usually build up to the actual Doomish sections. One song of theirs, "Empty Hearth," actually takes on a kind of Hip Hop rhythm (very much in the vein of Dalek) based around a folky scatting that becomes some weird little mantra the singer screams on. The song is the shortest on the album, 4:22 in length, but it feels soooo much longer because of the droning nature of it. Also, the voices are reduced to pong-like bounces by the end of the song. It's neat. This is all surface level analysis, I plan to listen more when my mind won't completely evict itself on hearing more of this madness, so here's some album art and music videos: Before I give you that, I have to mention that they are another metal band making Arkansas proud (though they now live in Providence RI) and they have a song called "The Blessed Lay Down and Write in Agony." These guys never cease to amaze me: The "Ebb and Flow of Tides in a Sea of Ash" video: Spoiler for WARNING: Mass suicide contained within:
A lovely picture for the folks back home: Spoiler for 2 hot 2 tROT:
Their "Worship" Video: Spoiler for WARNING: possible religious sacrifice (not really):
The beards behind it all: Spoiler for They really like guns?:
I'll let y'all check out the rest if you dig this. Listening further while writing this, they do have some definite Doom songs, but it seems like either they lead up to some great shift of no return or they are the shift of no return.
