Can we stop the genre wars?
Power metal vs. Thrash Metal
Death metal vs. Progressive metal Metalcore vs. everything else Can we ****ing stop this? There's only 2 genres of music that matter music you like and music you don't like On my ipod I have everything from Dream Theater to Cannibal Corpse to Bring me the Horizon to Cage the Elephant. Just because one genre of metal isn't as musically demanding as another doesn't mean it's not a good genre. I mean As I Lay Dying, The Fall of Troy an All That Remains are PERFECT examples of talented metalcore bands, helll why aren't the classified as just metal in the first place. Look my point is, just stop.... |

Genre debates may be rampant on metal-archives or other music sites with more narrow focuses, but there generally aren't such thick-headed debates here (that I've seen), especially since most of the old hardcore and emo crowd picked up and left. We're relatively eclectic as a whole.
So, uh, welcome to MB!

I just went back 5 pages in this sub forum and found nothing of the sort. Sure there will be the odd errant post here and there about what particular genre a band falls under, but you'll be hard pressed to find the typical Ultimate-Guitar forum post of "Rarrggghhhh folk metal is teh ghey"

ya, but folk metal is teh gay.
Seriously though, metal kids do this to themselves and trying to appeal to them is impossible unless you're a 6'7 viking with a severed head around your neck.

If you don't put the music you like into little genre boxes then how will you find more of similar tunes you like?
Also, The wars MUST continue to protect our vested interest in genre oil.

I agree that many sub genres are pointless and are there for hipsters but personally that is still a very limited amount of music for me.

on my ipod I have, post-hardcore, metalcore, deathcore, "pirate metal" (if you'll count that as a sub genre), hardcore punk, "normal"punk, power metal, thrash metal, hard rock, death metal, rap, electronic, folk metal, progressive metal, progressive rock, alternative rock, gothic metal, nu metal, electro metal, pop-punk, "djent" and even psycobilly. I think I'm pretty varied. |
