I still like a few nu metal bands out there nonetheless. I still pull out Godsmack's self-titled every once in a while if Cannibal Corpse is a little to extreme for the moment. But I will admit that a lot of nu metal bands can be WAY too predictable, regardless of how good they really are.

And Word Up isn't even a real nu metal song. It's an old funk song by Cameo that Korn decided to cover.

I think the Death Grips are a great band to recommend for a Nu Metal listener, Dalek too. It's got a heavy edge, it's angry, and it's fundamentally Hip Hop. It isn't strictly related, but, you know, loosely?

I can understand the connection, but I think Dalek is more along the lines of shoegaze, drone and ambient. Other than their sound, I don't hear the Nu Metal connection beyond their sound of Absence. And, while Absence is maybe the heaviest hip hop record ever, the rest of their material is not nearly as dense. They're routinely used sitar and Miles Davis' samples and latest album is a 41 minute untitled piece with several moments of... banjo. I know you said loosely, but it's just too loose for me. Edit: I do agree with your connection to Death Grips. In fact I read an article about Death Grips as the "New Nu Metal". An interesting read. |

Absence is what I'm referring to, I haven't heard anything else honestly.
