We are worlwide seen with the stereotype of the Land of mafia, Berlusconi, Pizza, Pavarotti, Operas, Ferrari, jealous husbands etc etc
But we have some good rockers too.
If you star thinkin that music can be good also if you don't understand the words, well you could maybe listen to some of this stuff without prejudism
Enjoy
Let's star with some NEGRITA a band very influenced by Stones oriented rock

Mama Maè - Negrita - Live Rock TV Night c/o Rolling Stone 28\04\05 - YouTube

Vasco Rossi. Half Italy adores him, tellin his the only true italian rocker. The other half hates him, telling that his just a well produced poser.
The truth, as always, is probably in the middle.
Surely his first records (eighties and 90's) had some excellent moments
This is in imho one of his best song, written in the beginnin of the 80's, "Siamo solo noi" (We are the only ones), with a great Lou Reed influence ....

Vasco Rossi - Siamo solo noi (live)

Ligabue, the other Italian rocker whose concerts in huge arenas are always sold out.
Imho like person is much better than Vasco Rossi (more simple guy, no supestar bull****, lot of authenticity) like musician is ver Springsteen/U2/Rem influenced but his song often sound always the same ....
This one is a parody song against the Catholic roman church and the obsession of sin/forgive ....

Libera Nos A Malo Ligabue - YouTube

This is nice. The Queen of Underground, Patti Smith, together with Marlene Kuntz one of the coolest italian indie bands. They play togheter "Impressioni di settembre" one of the most famous songs of Premiata Forneria Marconi aka P.F.M. the italian prog band of the seventies that was also famous in USA and UK back in time.

Litfiba: their singer, Piero Pelù, still is one of the most charismatic italian frontmen ....

Litfiba - Sole Nero - YouTube

Pino Daniele, the folksinger/bluesman from my home town Napoli, in duet with God Slowhand Clapton at a benefit concert last year here in Southern Italy. If you listen carefully to Wonderful Tonight you'll catch some lyrics in italian .... The band: Steve Gadd on drums, Mel Collins on saxophone, Willie Weeks on bass ..... Not bad at all, imho

Pino Daniele + Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight ( Live Cava de' Tirreni Concerto ) - YouTube

This is an english translation of one of the best italian songs ever.
The author FABRIZIO DE ANDRE', dead in 1999, was one of the best italian songwriters and folksingers and one of the first musicians of my country that made ethnical music. He was really appreciated, among the others, by Bod Dylan, David Byrne and Jackson Browne.

This are lyrics of freedom, lyrics for all the ones who choose not to follow the masses, paying a high duty for their being different.
This is an hymn against hipocrit and arrogant people, a prayer for all the loosers and the sinners.

An English version by Teresa Atzeni
Versione inglese di Teresa Atzeni

IMMEASURABLE PRAYER

High over the wrecks
from the lookouts of the towers
bent and distant on the element of disaster
from the things that happen above the words
commemorative of vacuity
along an easy wind
of satiety of impunity.

Over the metal outrage
of weapons in use and disuse
to lead the column
of pain and smoke
which leaves the endless battles at nightfall
the majority stays, the majority stays.

Reciting a rosary
of wretch ambitions
of millenary fears
of inexhaustible tricks
quiet cultivating
the horrible variety
of its own arrogances
the majority stays.

Like a sickness
like a bad luck
like an anaesthesia
like a habit.

For those who travel towards a stubborn and opposite
direction
with their special mark of special despair
and amid the vomit of repelled ones move their last steps
to give death a drop of brightness
of humanity, of verity.

For those who at Aqaba treated leprosy with a false
sceptre
and spread their passage with devastating jealousies
and children
with improbable names of tango singers
in a wide plan of eternity.

Remember, Lord, these servants disobedient
to the laws of pack
do not forget their faces
since after so much listing
it is only fair that luck help them.

Like an oversight
like an anomaly
like an inattention
like a duty.

I don't think you can but do you really need to preview each contribution? I would just edit, submit and post. If anything is wrong you can just edit it again.
