I've been in my fair share of mosh pits back in the Black Flag days and things could get a little rough, but there was always a spirit of fun and mischief about it too. It was very cathartic and I think it actually served as a release so that we didn't beat the snot out of each other.

The Metallica show was a much heavier, meaner vibe. These guys were there to really put the hurt on each other and some people were getting seriously messed up. This was going on everywhere too, not just in a few isolated spots. My friends, who were huge fans, were down in the crowd and got smashed in the face, got their glasses broken, etc. It was pretty intense.

I don't mean to slag Metallica or Metal fans - I think this could have happened anywhere. Maybe I am just an old fogey now and this is the way things go at live shows, but it certainly wasn't my idea of fun. Really, when I hear stories like this, I don't think it really matters what band you like or whatever. These young guys are wound tighter than a tick and are just looking to put the hurt on someone.

In retrospect, the Ministry crowd was much more civilized...^_^
Whenever I go to shows, the mosh pit is always pretty civilized (so to speak). Nobody tries to hurt anybody and if someone gets knocked down they get picked back up. It feels sort of like a brotherhood of people with no common sense. Maybe it's just because you went to a Metallica show where most of the fans are casual music fans who don't know the rules about moshing and just think they're supposed to hurt each other.

that's because it's corporatised - the "mosh pit"

you ever been to a British indie/punk show

people do their best to hurt each other and themselves

not that i don't enjoy that

Now I could start saying how black/death metal is for girly poser pussies who are only good as punching bags for real men but that's already been said and proved

And I'm not here to make you listen to my music, if you wanna be a bitch and listen to bitch **** sure go ahead. I'll be glad to beat up the next poser who starts bothering me.
You are being a hypocrite. If you go ahead and stereotype black/death metal fans as little pussies than I will stereotype all Limp Bizkit fans as trailer-trash wiggers with little musical taste. You are attempting to objectively analyze death and black metal.

I can guarantee you that if any member of this forum saw you on the street with a Limp Bizkit shirt on they wouldn't say anything and leave you alone. I don't see the accuracy in your stereotype anyway. I myself like black and death metal, and I was a linebacker for my high school (and heavily recruited by colleges, including Ivy League schools). My friends that like black and death metal are also very athletic. Judging by your wonderful way with words, they are much smarter than you as well. I guess we aren't real men though, since we don't enjoy Golden Cobra as much as you.

Your original post would have been fine if you left it at your "freedom to listen question", however, you followed it up with insults against black and death metal fans. You should have been smart enough to know that the group of kids you met (that think music is cool because "it is about torture") is not representative of metal fans.

Your ignorance offends me, and I'm not even an elitist. Go back home, baby troll.

If I made a grammar mistake feel free to correct me.

I wasn't against black/death metal until this happened. And what's worse, that incident just provoked more trouble. Now another group of metalheads suddenly turned quite cold towards me, and overall situation in my neighborhood is heating up and there is almost some kind of war between metalheads and rap fans, and I liking both am trying to stay away from it. I also heard that 2 of those black metal fans about 15-16y old dressed all black with make up on face, took a sickle and started trying scare women and children on the street but they ran into the wrong guy and he beaten them both up. Too bad I wasn't there, they must have looked silly I would have laughed alot

I may have immature stereotypes but as you can see at least I have reasons for them, and, ironically, this whole confrontation is going bad for the black/death metal fans who started it lol. I'm sorry if I offended any NORMAL black/death metal fans and I officially apologize, that really wasn't my intention I was just pissed off over dumbness of some stupid people.

BTW, one of those 3 who attacked us was filming the whole thing so you may even find the vid on youtube though I don't know why they'd put a vid of them getting ass kicked on youtube :P. My friend was wearing a SlipKnot t and black jeans and has neck long brown hair, I was wearing blue jeans and Limp Bizkit t and have short black hair, but oh well you know how the conversation went so if you see that vid please let me know

I would, but I don't have till the next millenium, sorry. I could have started with the post I quoted but I don't have till next week, either.

As to the situtaion: you acted badly, my young padawan. You should have said, "You don't need to see his identification," and, "These aren't the droids you're looking for," and of course, you could have definitely said, "You may go now." Or, just as simply, you could have said, "You are my daughter," but then you'd have been the one that got punched off a kindergarten round up swing. And we'd be the ones

In all seriousness, I haven't worn my band t-shirt since I was a teen; they're all too small for me now, unfortunately, and unfortunately again I do not have the "durst" to order any more.

I LOVE Metallica, but the above mentioned situation in the mosh pit causes me to stay at home and listen to my albums... I am not into violence.
