The songs "Storm" and "The Dead Flag Blues" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor are pretty intense (the climax at the 10 minute mark in Storm reduced me to tears the first time I heard it)

Also the ending of "Catamaran" by BearVsShark is pretty intense...Marc Paffi is intense

I think the hook riff to Elegy by Becoming the Archetype is possibly the most intense piece of modern music.

All time favorite has to go to Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath.
That song is still as heavy, intense, and just plain scary today as it was 40 years ago.

Something that puzzles me is the definition of intense within a song framework. What criteria do we use? Do we ascribe speed with intensity? How distorted the riff is? The extremity of the vocals? The ambience and sense of foreboding of a track? The lyrics? All of the above? None of the above?
