Im sure there is some truth to what he said, but maybe they just enjoy playin music an touring as well. Whether or not he's right, I think it's a douche bag move to come out and say all that.

True, though to be honest I never got into Pavement (I know Slanted and Enchanted is supposed to be awesome and they had a video where they all got haircuts but that's it) nor was I aware they were doing a reunion so I can't really comment on that side of his comment.

It seems to me that Billy Corgan is cashing in on the Smashing Pumkins name at this point, so he sounds like a bit of a hypocrite as far as I'm concerned.
They look like more of a tribute band now.
Perhaps he should change the band's name and STFU.

I didn't see Billy Corgan rerfer to his band as a business in that article, so I didn't see any irony in the statement. He only thinks of bands that reunite and tour without new material as an oldies business. He may have said his band is a business in other interviews. (I can't understand people who are in a band that makes money and not realize they're in a business.) You're right there is irony in finger pointing at bands who want to make money - Smashing Pumpkin is his cash cow.

My ironic moment in the article was when he said it's "boring." I would rather a band stick to old material that I like than try to pass new boring material I don't care for so they can sell their latest albums (which is normal business practice for bands).

But for the most part I agree with it. I can't see how a recording artist in could be solely about "art for art sake" with no business aspect to it. It seems for the most part music takes a back seat to all other aspects of the music business especially for big name stars.

Good grief. He may not have used the words "my band is a business" but he was clearly referring to his band as business in the article.

What an insufferable prick. Kind of get a bad taste in my mouth when I look back on the days when I use to practically worship the man.
