Default Norwegian black metal

What's yall's opinions on this controversial style? Favorite bands and what not?
Personally I think Burzum and Darkthrone stand out, but other bands from this scene sort of blend together for me. Also, as far as a lot of the Nationalistic and Pagan views in the lyrics, I do not agree but I dig the way the music sounds and as I listen to more of it I will probably notice in the differences in the other bands and warm up to them as well. Maybe I just personally prefer the more atmospheric, ambient stuff.

So what do you guys think about it?

Black Metal from Norway is not a distinct style; granted, there did develop a certain sound which supposedly characterized black metal (which is ignorant in the extreme ) & the notion that bands from Norway had a sound unique enough to dub it unique (which isn't true). There are bands that play this mythical sound, but they came after the media explosion & are rightfully labelled with the disparaging term "norsecore".

Burzum is cool, but he never put out an album that was solid the entire way through. Just a few brilliant songs (at most), some mediocre ones, & crap takes at being Kraftwerk.

I'd recommend Ildjarn to you if you've some special fascination with BM from Norway; the record Ildjarn-Nidhogg is the most accessible.
