I disagree.

Regardless of the original intentions of the movement, which I'm sure were humble intentions at best, Emo today has become a very fashionable thing, so in retrospect it surely has become a cliche, possibly even more than Grunge was after Nirvana's success.

Now you can say most modern emo bands are not "true emo" but regardless of what you feel true emo is, they were influenced by early emo bands, so in some way or another they are emo weither you want to accept them as that or not, but of course many don't want to call them emo because they don't "look" or "act" emo or "they are trying to commercialize emo thus they are not emo" or whatever.

They are hardly influenced by emo, the only bond they share is the screaming which is just as much a punk/hardcore thing.

boo boo 01-04-2007 02:30 PM

I highly doubt that.

If you took the time to check into the profiles of modern emo bands whom you dislike, you would certainly find a lot of the so called "true" emo bands being cited by them as influences.

The majority of bands do that for cred, From First To Last says Nirvana is their biggest influence. They sound nothing like nirvana in any aspect.

If you have no factual basis for this than I suggest you put up or shut up.

And besides, it IS possible to be influenced by an artist without sounding like that artist, for example, Tool claim King Crimson to be their greatest influence, even though they don't really sound like King Crimson at all, that dosen't mean it's not true.

My factual basis: the majority of these bands consider the Used founders of emo and a bunch have said so.

Most of them sound like blink 182 with screaming, they don't play anything resembling emo. Shit, look at Paramore they sound exactly like Avril Lavigne.

boo boo 01-04-2007 03:00 PM

I have never heard anyone credit The Used as founders of Emo.

But my thesis stands, if you have a whole bunch of influences which a lot of modern "untrue" emo bands probably do, then of course they are not going to sound like one artist in paticular.

But oh well, lets say the new stuff isn't "true" emo but merely a sub genre of emo, it's still related to emo.

sleepy jack 01-04-2007 03:01 PM

It soo isn't.

ITS POP GODDAMNIT

boo boo 01-04-2007 03:14 PM

Pop isn't even a genre.

Any band of any genre can be considered pop, it's a term that has been applied to everyone from The Beatles to The Residents to NSYNC, you can be pop and still be something else.

And yeah I have, it's a toughie, afterwards you have to fight Sonic and the GUN commander whos in this giant robot thing, took me a while to beat him.

But the Space Colony Ark level is the most fustrating level I have played so far, thats where I am currently.

sleepy jack 01-04-2007 03:15 PM

Okay, its catchy as hell and sounds like avril lavigne.
