Alright I just checked out Heaven Tonight and was much more impressed. In fact, I kinda feel like listening to it again. You know those moments when you listen to a band and you think you don't know any of their songs and then all the sudden you hear a track you've loved but didn't realize it was them? Yeah, that happened. I love the song Surrender but I just never realized it was Cheap Trick.

So, yeah, I'm sold.

Yeah, "Surrender" is a great song. I have to confess I haven't really been able to get into the rest of the album though.

When I saw them perform that song live, Rick Neilsen chucked album sleeves of Kiss to the audience (I didn't get one) The song has been covered by Green Day and by Velvet Revolver, Velvet Revolver covering Cheap Trick is no surprise really considering Cheap Trick were a major influence on them.

One of the great Trick tracks from the 00's.

In fact all this talk about Cheap Trick is getting me all hot and excited, the group give me a positive hard on (Yep I'm that obsessed) In fact I'm going to do an in depth album review of the band.

Where should it be done mods in this thread or in album reviews?

well, if you want to get into the nitty-gritty of power-pop at that time, I prefer the Raspberries and the Only Ones over Cheap Trick

but that's just the power-pop hipster in me

Honestly, I've never understood why Cheap Trick is hailed as some Hall of Fame kind of band. Solid group, but nothing ground-breaking musically or lyrically, from what I can tell. It follows that I don't love any of the band's songs, though I champion "It's Only Love" as underrated. And its video has some good eye candy

Eric Carmen was a great vocalist but the Raspberries never ever made a string of great albums. The Only Ones I don't know but will check em out, I've listened to a lot of punk and new wave stuff from the late 70s and early 80s recently and seemed have missed them out.

There seems to be different criteria for the the Hall of Fame, but in Cheap Trick's case I think its down to originality in both sound and image. I mean nobody ever sounded like that before and the members of the band look like they come from about 3 or 4 different bands it makes for an intriguing mixture. Also they're probably in there on the strength of the opening salvo of albums that have been highly influential on a bunch of artists, but then again maybe I'm just being overly biased here.

Yep that is a great 80s pop video, one of the highlights of The Doctor album which was poor.

Not Cheap Trick but the Raspberries, would've loved Cheap Trick to have covered this song.

First time I saw them was at Joey Ramone's Birthday Bash at the Hammerstein Ballroom in 2001, the year Joey passed away.

They were one of, if not the LOUDEST band I've ever heard.
