Oh, you rang?
|
I complete reject the notion that Black Metal crystallized in Scandinavia.
NME, "Unholy Death", 1986 Sarco***o, "INRI", 1987 Order From Chaos, "Crushed Infamy" (Demo), 1989 Blasphemy, "Fallen Angel of Doom", 1990 Havohej, "Dethrone the Son of God", 1993 etc. Norsecore =/= Black Metal. There existed, prior to that, a separate sound, and this sound continues to exist today in bands such as Black Witchery & Revenge. |
Did I forget Sortsind? Goddamn it I forgot Sortsind.
|
i'm mostly into the cheese-whiz Norwegian stuff, really, i listen to Darkthrone, Immortal, Marduk, Emperor
this is my fave of the bunch (song-wise, I mean):- |
I really like Xasthur.
The kid's from sunny Southern Cali I think. |
I love Xasthur! Can I post DSBM? I'll just save that for tomorrow.

I think Xasthur's my favorite vocalist in the whole damn game. |

When it comes to black metal I like mine as gritty as possible.

^^^ Malaysia was colonized by the British. French Indochina = Laos, Vietnam, & Cambodia.
Anyways, screw this boring black metal. Here's some fast & chaotic black metal: ^^^ this rip sucks, but it gets the point across. Black Metal with influences from early grindcore. Really fun stuff. |

So, time to bring this argument here - does this count as black metal?

And I have to say, I would really enjoy it, if only it were instrumental. His vocals ruin the songs. :/ |
Loads of great bands listed already, here's a couple more I like:
|
Euronomus, I think I may like that band. Thank you for posting them here.

^^^ this song begins in a manner similar to that of the film "Brick". |
I've decided that Botanist is a very lovable band.
One flora-worshipper making songs out of vocals, drums, and a hammered-dulcimer. Awesome. I hadn't even noticed from the songs posted that there are no guitars (and no synth). He's got a double-album with about 40 short tracks, and the shit never gets boring. Here's the guy doing an interview with NPR. |
Hip Hop Bunny Hop knows his stuff. Though I’m a fan of a lot of the early nineties Norweigan classics but by no means were they the first to create bm as other scenes were developing in other parts of the world as well. Euronymous himself also stated what a big influence acts like Sarco***o and N.M.E were…
Anyways here’s a few more goodies of earlier releases that were ahead of their time… Epic Czech bm. There’s use of keyboards here but they use them wisely and at the right time. More weird, thrashy bm madness from Czechs.. Although this video is from ’92 from the “Into the Drape” EP Italian occultists Mortuary Drape had been releasing demos since the mid 80’s. Tsk tsk… I see no ones posted Bathory yet… I’ll post some Polish bm vids a little later when I have time as I’ve always felt that this scene was incredibly underrated during the nineties… |

What about bm newbies or other posters who haven’t had the chance to hear the sheer mastery of that song?
Anyhoo, I’ve always been a big fan of Polish bm, perhaps because members (guys like Rob Darken and Capricornus) are often involved with multiple groups. Graveland, Capricornus, Veles, Fullmoon, Infernum, early Behemoth, Ohtar, Dark Fury, Thor’s Hammer, Infernal War, Gontyna Kry, Lord of Evil/War 88 etc. are all decent. I have more purchased releases of Graveland than any other artist in my music collection. I’m a big fan of both the raw, primitiveness of the early stuff and the newer Hammerheart-like sound but my favourite album is probably their transitional “Following the Voice of Blood”.. Melodic and majestic, yet raw and nasty bm. The Graveland influence is quite obvious here. A shame only one full length was ever released, one of my favourite bm vocalists ever. Infernal War have a different take going for a more directly chaotic, militant, punishing sound not that far away from an artist like Ad Hominem. Fullmoon were also pretty great and took lots of influence from Graveland’s barbaric and almost medieval-ish sound. Forget the silly name, ‘United Aryan Evil’ is among the best demos of all time. |
