Metal is like an apple,....... you know the rest of the saying. xp

But seriously, I can only tolerate a handful a bands such as Unearth, As I Lay Dying, Diecast, BFMV, and Shadows Fall.

Yeah, I can see that. This whole Sepultura ---> Metalcore thing has stuck in my craw, and I feel there is a linkage due to Sepultura's eventual reliance on dynamic changes over traditional metal methods, namely the riff worship.

Further linkage can be found in really, really old Sepultura.... the track "Troops of Doom", for example. How they incorporate riff worship and the seemingly random / incredibly effective mini-breakdown.

Rings of Saturn is a good deathcore band. The first time I listened to Embryonic Anomaly, I felt like my brain was reduced to a liquid.

How could I forget about Heaven Shall Burn? They rip Carcass off more than Dying Fetus, so that may be a big reason why they're not complete ****.

I prefer their first two albums over the rest of their output, but yes, they are much better than the majority of metalcore bands out there.

+1

One of my favorites.

That's the only album by them I've heard, other than a few other songs from samplers. I'll have to check them out more at some point.

Deathcore?

Look, I know there's a lot of **** in deathcore and recently it's been especially bad, with scene band after scene band just copying eachother to the point where basically every song is just the same open note palm muted breakdown for five minutes with the occasional fast riff bit. But there are actually some deathcore bands I dig that I feel like, while similar to these later bands in some respects, are pretty distinguishable from eachother and are pretty heavy. Perhaps it is because most of these bands are from the subgenre's early days. Whatever reason I like them, here's my list:

The Red Chord
Elysia
Despised Icon
War From a Harlot's Mouth
We are the End
The Black Dahlia Murder (though they often lean closer to straight death metal)
Suffokate

I'd also include Dying Fetus, Suffocation and Skinless but it's a bit debatable as to whether they're really deathcore or more of precursors to the sound.

Does anyone else here dig deathcore? If so what are some of YOUR favorite bands or bands I think I should get into?
