Not what you said more than a year ago...

I don't really think those quotes are particularly contradictory. I basically went down from a 7 to a 6 and didn't mention how funny it was in terms of the effect on snobby music fans and fanboys of either artist.

One of those albums I've no intention of ever listening to. Just such a strange mix of styles that I can't see how it can possibly come out good.

It's not really all that bad. The last few tracks are really good.

I keep getting this vision of James Hetfield riffing away, shouting "Satellite's gone up to the sky-ya, ooh things like drive me out of my mind-da!!"

That, in itself, is enough to put me off listening to any Reed/Hetfield collaboration.

when I first heard it when it came out I hated it, but years later I heard it playing before a Tenacious D concert, and by this time I was familiar with Lou Reed. I revisited it after the concert and had a new appreciation for it.

Back then, I listened to the whole thing several times on that official website where the album was (is?) freely available for streaming.

It's mostly awful because of Metallica and in particular because of Hetfield.

Ja, when you tune out Hetfield, it's a solid record.

It had it's moments. The worst were chunky riffs and Hetfield mooing over them. The best were more low key, atmospheric moments.

it's far too long (90 minutes or something?)

Not sure how I made it through several times back then.
