Still don't understand the AiC hate. Unique, dark-sludge-grunge suited vocals, and vocals suited lyrics. Their sound stands out compared to PJ, STP, for sure. Their "sludge" sound doesn't sound like any other sludge band I've heard. Or at least give me an example.

They're not even generally considered sludge. Just a dark-grunge band. Bands don't have to focus on riffs to be good, and I don't think that's the most important thing they were trying to pull off. They just played along with the feel of it.

AIC were true artists when it came to making repetitive and boring music, and also having a lead singer that spent most of his time whining about self-hate and disgust, in fact few bands have done it better than them.

As far as I know, they were never a grunge band. They were a metal band that started out playing Slayer covers. Before they made it big they toured on the Clash of the Titans tour with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax for god's sake. They may have had a grunge influence, but they were never grunge. And whenever they tried to be sludge, they just ended up sounding melodramtic or just plain boring. They had their moments where they could rock out, but in general they were much better when they played melodic.

How tastes vary, I think he's one of the greatest American vocalists of his generation.
You're gonna be locked outside at my backyard bbq's. I can see we will always disagree on their importance to the Seattle scene. |

AIC eclectic!!! Well you don't know about quote buttons, but you do have a great sense of humour STP were not really part of the Seattle scene, they dressed to well and looked like they washed at least once a week. BTW thanks for the BBQ invite.
