They also conveniently waited until they had one of the fastest selling album debuts ever to make that decision public (Vs. set some serious sales records). It's also not like they didn't fully capitalize from the popularity they developed by exploiting the industry and media during the early days of their career. Is it really ballsy to give the public a lot of anything then limit the availability to increase the demand and create a false sense of exclusivity? Or is it just shrewd business sense?

Yeah I remember watching that 20 years ago, do you? I also remember that they chose to play Heart Shaped Box instead and the Novoselic gave himself a concussion on stage by throwing his bass up into the air then catching it with his face. Sounds totally like corporate cowardice to me....

Then again there's the fact that Rape Me is a scathing retort to the label and industry demand for Nirvana to write a 2nd Smells Like Teen Spirit. Same riff, new words, substantial change in meaning. Care to explain how deconstructing your biggest hit in a way that guarantees it can't be exploited by mainstream media is an act of corporate cowardice?

I understand you like Pearl Jam better, that's fine, no one really cares. But the fact that you keep trying to belittle Nirvana as a way of proving that PJ is somehow a 'truer' rock band just makes you look foolish.

Actually, I'd say that Screaming Trees would be my favorite 90v's Seattle band, even though Nirvana is pretty far up there

Voted for PJ.

God damn it! Two people need to vote for Nirvana, so at least Alice In Chains don't win.

I should have voted Alice In Chains, but that Rooster song annoys the hell out of me.

Agreed. It's just a boring ****ing song, and is it just me, or does it sound like their attempt to rip off "Smells Like Teen Spirit"?

It sounds like Staley is gargling balls on that song. I like a few off Dirt and their first album has a few cuts, but I always thought they were off a little bit.

If he sounds like he is gargling balls, then I'd say 90% of grunge vocalists also sound like that. It's the gargling balls style.

Yeah, they sound like a second rate sludge band who are better off playing melodic and acoustic songs.

I'd be inclined to agree with that to a certain extent. I always thought Chris Cornell had great pipes. Dude can wail.
