i'm still of the view AIC unplugged beats Nirvana unplugged

cos Nirvana's songs sound crap acoustic

it's a true measure of songwriting when your songs sound as good acoustic as electric

AiC unplugged was great. I always thought acoustic suited them and this is a perfect example why. Especially if you could pull that off live.

Yeah, I think i've mentioned this in another thread a little while back, but their unplugged DVD was one of the few reasons why I really like Alice In Chains. I don't listen to them all the time or anything, but they really hit it out of the ballpark with their unplugged stuff.

^Plus, the DVD/CD cover is pretty cool.

I would argue the songs sound even BETTER acoustic than electric.

Well Jar of Flies is their best. That's pretty much more of an acoustic album.

but the raw passion and emotion present on their cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" alone beats the entire AIC Unplugged performance.

I love AIC Unplugged, it is decent.. a few failures on it, "Rooster" for example..

but yeah

the part at 3:08 is just mind blowing... and that scream/pause to breathe at 3:57 just haunts me every time I hear it...

Just so tortured and raw that it is beyond brilliant. NOTHING on AIC Unplugged evens comes close to those few seconds of this performance.

That part alone to me puts Nirvana over AIC Unplugged ANY day of the week.

Jar Of Flies/Unplugged are mediocre. Facelift and Dirt are two of the best alternative metal albums I've ever listened to. Nirvana definitely pulls off acoustic better.

I don't think Layne could of sounded more poignant than on that album.

It was more his image. Doesn't translate as well on CD. Just hearing the CD is to just hear your average AIC stuff, just acoustic.

Too see the video though is a whole different matter. I still recall hoe much it haunted me the moment he took his glasses off. Looked dead, with Kurt it was a mystery he would dead shortly.... with Layne, I watched to see if he could make it though just that show, let alone how many more years he lived.

The visual aspect of Unplugged pushes it to a different level of poignant that the audio alone can not deliver.

I love both Unplugged episodes, but overall Nirvana delivered a more varied and unique spin on the Unplugged series, that was almost taboo in comparison to the rest. They went against the norm of the show and delivered something that was seen more so as great after Kurt was dead.

AIC just... were AIC only acoustic and a little more depressing by the end. I love AIC Unplugged, but parts worked, and parts didn't.... in parts it is equally great I suppose as Nirvana, but on the whole Nirvana blows it away.

Personally I think their self-titled album was brilliant as well, and underrated in comparison to the albums before. "Grind", "Heaven Beside You", "Sludge Factory" .... I love those songs.

Something about that album is amazing to me, and I do not get why it isnt held as high as those 2 you mentioned.
