Anyone remember Camper Van Beethoven, Violent Femmes, the pixies or Throwing Muses.

Definitely not Seattle grunge, but 90's all the same.

I associate those bands more with the 80s than the 90s personally.

yeah, they were late 80's early 90's. I guess I'm thinking 90's because that is when I saw them.

I'm not even sure I'd say late 80s/early 90s either. That would really only apply to the Pixies. The others all started in the early 80s. Camper Van Beethoven released all of their material (except the recent reunion stuff) in the 80s. Violent Femmes' best music was all in the 80s.

Throwing Muses were awesome. Even though they formed in 1983 their 1991 album The Real Ramona is a really great album and very underrated. Violent Femmes' 90's material was quite poor compared to their earlier stuff.

Pixies sound familiar, I might have heard of them before...

Actually I'm surprised that nobody is mentioning Sunny Day Real Estate, they released some fantastic albums in the 90's in particular their debut Diary.

You say this like he completely invented grunge music. Apparently you've never heard of the Melvins, Green River, or Screaming Trees. To me it seems like Cobain was just some guy that got lucky and had his name attached to the genre.
