I'm suprised, I realize a lot of people prefer Alice In Chains over Nirvana and Vica Versa. But you have to admit, Nirvana is the grandmaster of Grunge. They aren't the ones who necessarily invented it. But they definitely turned it into the extravagant sound it was the 1990s.

but as I've said, Nirvana's music from Nevermind onwards isn't even true "grunge", it's more sludge/stoner rock

grunge would be somewhere between Mudhoney and the Melvins

Nirvana has nothing in common with either of those styles.

you can say Black Sabbath isn't exactly but what was there soon evolved into that style

"grunge" ideally would be a cross between the fuzzed punk of Mudhoney with the drone of the Melvins

i think early Nirvana demo tapes sounded like that

Thanks for posting the vids BastardOfYoung. I still think Alice In Chains’ doom and gloom and sludgy guitar riffs were tops but I’ll have to keep an eye out for those ones when pawn shop hunting. Decent stuff.

Alice in Chains - Man in the Box (live) - YouTube

Amazing. Aside from the fact its been censored...
