When your lead vocalist dies of a drug overdose, people just fall in love with the band and seem to remember the band as the best thing since sliced bread. The same ocurred with Mother Love Bone and Blind Melon. I doubt if people would be raving about these bands if the lead singer hadn't passed away

Even though I prefer Pearl Jam to Soundgarden, Soundgarden were without doubt one of the best hard rock acts of the 1990s, so are worthy of all the paludits they receive.

But what if you didn't learn about the band until like years after dude died?

I didn't learn about Andrew Wood until like 2-3 years after he died and an MLB song was on the 'Singles' soundtrack... BOOM! I quickly became a massive MLB fan though even though I did not 'technically remember them'.

Man I still can't believe that Andrew Wood and Chris Cornell used to be room-mates. So much talent in one house!

Anyhow I voted for Soundgarden on the poll:

Quote:
Regarding Soundgarden's legacy, in a 2007 interview Cornell said,[105]

I think, and this is now with some distance in listening to the records, but on the outside looking in with all earnestness I think Soundgarden made the best records out of that scene. I think we were the most daring and experimental and genre pushing really and I'm really proud of it.

Ah you learnt about the band when the hipsters jumped on the bandwagon, now didn't we have this conversation before.

How can this poll not have the Screaming Trees? Mark Lanegan puts all other grunge vocalists to shame.

No hipster handed me a copy of the Singles soundtrack.

Believe it or not sometimes people come across things organically.

Anyhow I did go and see the Singles flick with one of my best buddies who was also really into grunge music. He was way more into it then me. He was no hipster though. When Kurt died he was one of the many copy-cats who tried to commit suicide as well. I would call that pretty ****ing serious and shows a total lack of hipster-ism (luckily he failed in his attempt and was only committed to the mental hospital and is still around today, in fact he lives in Seattle now as a matter of fact. Kurt Cobain )

When did music stop being a subjective medium? Crusade for your favourite band all you like but there's no way to objectively prove one is better than the other. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were joking, but I've seen people approach music this way.

He's just expressing surprise at other people's opinions, not claiming anything is an objective fact.
