Seven Seals is a great album and one of their best, it was also a return to form as well after releasing some weaker albums. No I haven't heard their most recent album yet.

Time to update this and still from 1998 is this album from Iced Earth. There have been a number of Iced Earth entries on the thread and this along with the previous Dark Saga are two of their very best. This album sways between reflective softer numbers which the band do so well to outright thrashy pummelers which show just how brutal American power metal can really be. This whole thing as always, is heightened by the vocals of Matt 'the beast' Barlow, hell I could listen to this guy singing all day. Also this album has featured at least once on 'Metal Wars' and the old 'Album Wars' threads. I'm certain that by the time my journal reaches 1998 (if it gets there) it will feature this album.

The second HammerFall album was slicker than the debut release and more concise, by this time they had become one of the biggest bands on the European power metal scene and along with fellow Scandanavians Stratovarius they were matching the German power metal bands in terms of popularity. As I said on their first album review, this band is a 'celebration of metal' they never took it to an extreme like Manowar but classic metal was in this band's blood. On this album there are some classic power metal tunes, along with some great power ballads. If you're into power metal, then you need this band in your collection.

Firstly, I would just like to thank you for this thread. I've just read all 35 pages and along the way made a list of bands that I need to start listening to. The list now goes up to 28 bands. I started listening to power metal in the form of Hammerfall and from what has been mentioned in this thread, I guess I chose a good place to start.
Again, thank you sooo much for this thread!!! |
