I've always loved Angra. They're not the fastest, or the heaviest band, certainly, but they make up for it with truly classy songwriting. They only get better the more you listen to them.

I really like the title track as well, but I think the song just before it, is the best on the album. Its so good and like a Stratovarius song I just can't get it out of my head.

Now before moving on and looking at albums from 1998 onwards, I kind of realized I'd missed quite a lot of stuff out and also discovered some new bands since starting the thread. So recapping on what I'd missed out before moving on.

I've already featured Manowar's best ever power metal release 1992's The Triumph of Steel already, but Manowar's move from an arena style metal band to a power metal outfit, took place several years earlier on their fifth album Fighting the World problem is though, its probably ranks as their worst ever album and had to wait to get their power metal sound on cue on their sixth release, which is the speaker blowing Kings of Metal and hell its heavy, pure headbanging stuff

At the moment I can't stop listenening to Angra. For anybody not familiar with Angra, they are a Brazilian power metal band whose influences are deeply rooted in the German power metal movement, so much so that their early albums were co-produced by Charlie Bauerfeind who has worked with Helloween, Blind Guardian and Rage. Now Angra are a power metal band with a difference, they really do mix up their sound with heavy neo-classical influences, touches of folk metal all combined in a really feel good factor vibe. Like Sepultura they have used traditional Brazilian music in their sound, but unlike the ferocious assault of Sepultura, they have used it in a far more upbeat and positive fashion A lot of people may be put off by some of Angra's work, because here is a band who on the face of it, sound like they were just influenced by the European power metal bands and are mirroring the sound, but in reality they have their own distinctive sound, which can take some getting used to, but when you do its very rewarding. Also I'm a big fan now of their original singer Andre Matos who sang on their early albums. Their debut album below is the band finding their feet, but still a good album and even has a surprising cover of "Wuthering Heights" The two best songs are the You-tube vids already posted above.

You deserve to get bitch smacked for not posting this song. The opening riff is just fantastic.

I'm totally addicted to Angra and their second album Holy Land and its just so good! Its a concept album about the colonization of Brazil by the Portuguese and mixes power metal in with Brazilian music styles, a better name for these early Angra albums might be progressive power metal. This album takes several listens to really appreciate its beauty (yep metal albums can be beautiful too) Several of the songs are fairly complex, but flow just effortlessly into your head and get stuck there.
