I just found the coolest 80s power metal band, The Omen. Sort of a Maiden rip off, but a great rip off.

This is good 1980s power metal and a band I'd never heard of, you've got real ability at digging up this stuff Looks like I'll have to add them to my never ending list of stuff to listen to. The debut album was produced by Brian Slagel as well.

I don't know what I ever did without Rate Your Music. It's even better for finding obscure **** than Last.FM.

I stay away from these sites, because I have so much stuff still to listen to, that I don't want my listening list to become truly gargantuan!

I also have a gargantuan listening list. But in my crotchety old age, I've found that I generally get more joy from discovering hidden gems in metal than looking through genres that I'm less well versed in. I guess I'm just a metal nerd. I have to hear it all, even the B-rate stuff.

haha same here, just have to listen to everything where possible. Maybe that explains my love of power metal. Never used to love it, power metal just gradually embraced me.

Also your new avatar looks very world of Conan.

It should. It's from a Manowar album. Kingdom of Steel I think. I've sort of become obsessed with them recently, when I realized that the copy of Into Glory Ride that I've had for about ten years and been lukewarm about is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.

Early Manowar is great and that's their second album. They would reach their peak imo with their third release Hail to England their greatest moment. I'm also a big fan of Triumph of Steel as well.

Manowar are straight up honest metal and fly the flag proudly.

Hail to England is their best IMO too. So great. Kings of Metal is almost as epic too. How can you not crack a smile at "Other bands play/ MANOWAR KILL!!!"

Currently blasting...

...so badass.

I need to re listen to that album then, didn't think it was one of their best by a long shot.
