Anybody know the Terry Goodkind novels of Sword of Truth series as it looks another good fantasy world, also Brandon Sanderson who has taken over Wheel in Time as well as writing his own stuff.

I tried reading them, but around book four, I just lost interest. The characters are boring, two dimensional, and cheesy, the world is rather unrealized and also two dimensional, and I'm pretty sure the author hates women (not to mention he has a serious S&M fetish). Seriously, the amount of violent rape scenes and "close calls" just becomes gratuitous and offensive after a while. I could go on with all the things that bother me about those books, but I don't really have the energy for that kind of rant at the moment.

Still haven't heard it yet, but can't stop listening and singing the below song off one of their earlier albums when Timo Tolkki was their lead vocalist. The song has a strong AOR slant and sounds like Survivor, probably the reason i love it. Stratovarius - Eyes Of The World - YouTube I'm listening to a lot of their stuff at the moment and the general consensus is that Visions is their best album closely followed by Destiny. Ok time to update this thread and so talking of Stratovarius, next up is this album and their second with new vocalist Timo Kotipelto who stepped into the band as lead vocalist after previous vocalist Timo Tolkki took over guitar duties, this album also was the first that would provide the group with their definitive line up and provide the launchpad for their famous Visions album. Episode was also the band's most ambitious album to date and despite having a weaker second part to the album is still an important album for the band. I always thought Timo Tolkki a great vocalist and Timo Kotipelto stepped in and probably provided the band with more vocal depth. At times Kotipelto sounds amazingly like James La Brie of Dream Theater especially on slower songs, a fact which a lot of people may see as a negative.

After their solid Land of the Free in 1995, Gamma Ray put out the equally good Somewhere Out in Space and like their previous album was heavily guitar dominated, with Kai Hansen being one of the best guitarist within the genre. Gamma Ray as far as European Power bands went at the time, were without doubt the heaviest and in that respect mirrored their American counterparts.

One of the tracks on the album and amazingly throughout much of the song the latter part of "Stairway to Heaven" seems to resonate throughout the song

Nevermore are without doubt one of my all time favourite metal bands with their brand of power metal merged with thrash and progressive. After the folding of previous band Sanctuary, front men Warrel Dane and Jeff Loomis formed Nevermore and the world was blessed with their unique sound. After a poor debut album they came back with the classic Politics of Ecstasy album, often seen as the band's definitive album.
