Default Best Debut Albums of the Last 25 Years

I came across this hilariously bad list on Metalhammer.com, as voted on by its readerbase. Take a gander:

1. Slipknot – Slipknot (32.27%)
2. Korn – Korn (8.88%)
3. Guns N’ Roses – Appetite For Destruction (8.84%)
4. Rammstein – Herzeleid (6.92%)
5. Pantera – Cowboys From Hell (6.2%)
6. System Of A Down – System Of A Down (4.67%)
7. Linkin Park – Hybrid Theory (3.78%)
8. Machine Head – Burn My Eyes (3.35%)
9. Bullet For My Valentine – The Poison (3.01%)
10. Rage Against The Machine – Rage Against The Machine (2.78%)

From that first list the Korn, SOD and Machine Head are great albums, the Pantera isn`t a debut but its kind of like one though and I can see why it was included.

Of the second list the Kyuss debut is nothing special, Mastodon is very overrated and thats nowhere near one of my fav Melvins albums and as for Down......now I know you`re struggling here

I`ll put my thinking cap on and come back with what I think are the best ten a bit later.

Remission is a Hell of an album and quite frankly deserves to be nominated. I don't find Remission that overrated, latter Mastodon is.

But yeah, you're right with Down, I think that NOLA is a good album, but not a best debut by any chance.

In no particular order and from 1986 onwards. I think every one of these 25 albums is a great to classic debut metal album:

Acid Bath-When the Kite String Pops
Badlands-Badlands
Baroness-The Red Album
Brutality-Screams of Anguish
Candlemass-Epicus Doomicus Metallicus
Danzig-Danzig
Death-Scream Bloody Gore
Deftones-Adrenaline
Dismember-Like An Ever Flowing Stream
Entombed-Left Hand Path
Galactic Coboys-Galactic Cowboys
Gojira-Terra Incognita
Grave-Into the Grave
Immolation-Dawn of Possession
Katatonia-Dance of December Souls
Korn-Korn
Life of Agony-River Runs Red
Machine Head-Burn Your Eyes
Morbid Angel-Altars of Madness
Norma Jean-Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child
Superjoint Ritual-Use Once and Destroy
Sadus-Illusions
System of a Down-System of a Down
Type O Negative-Slow,Deep and Hard
Unleashed-Where No Life Dwells

Oh C'mon most lists are like this if they are voted by the populace and even if Metal Hammer represents a small market share and the list is only voted for by Metal fans, most who vote will be in the 16- 25 category and vote for albums that had an impact for them at that particular time. You could produce lists every five years previous, get a whole new bunch of albums and still find criticism (not you personally).

Personal lists or recommendations on Last Fm or RYM are a far better indicator of what was going on at the time and something I take more notice of.

Not really, in my neck of the woods i find em underrated. There's nothing wrong with their music, their skill is pretty impeccable without being pretentiously virtuoso-like. Their only weak point is their lyrics, and Remission is their most jamminest album, so that's not really a problem.

Well, bear in mind I'm just throwing up nominees. I won't pretend to have listened to every metal debut in the last 25 years, but from what I've heard these are what immediately come to mind

Damn... Hard pick because 99% of the time in metal, debut albums are weak.

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
