Yes, music is a very powerful thing because people really relate to it, because music is like an emotional boundary, an expression of a feeling, a lifestyle, an attitude... That is why I think that music could do a lot of "healing" also in the gap between different races, continents, countries....! Or at least music CAN reach people and touch them, so they maybe start looking at something in a new way! No, I am Swiss - Swissgerman. Yeah, Switzerland got rich because of WW2 (Ed ***an turned them in court for that) No I am no racist and no nazi. I would fight anyone who is! |

Thank you! No I don't want to look like a racist because I am pointing that out. But just yeah, I think there is still a lot of Injustice and violence going on in this world and we here, are just suckling on our ipods, all our possessions (made of plastic or of the raw materials from the poor countries), living good lifes, while a huge part of the world is very poor, and that huge part of the world is darkish, brown, black color!! Not white really! So....
Why is Whitey rich? .... just that thing. I tell you, I am 34, I always heard of the poor people from my mom (she is a minister, she is socially concious of that, I was raised that way too) but just this summer it HIT ME so... like I FELT it like I put myself in the position of someone who is from a rural place in africa, from a tribe that is indiginous - the government of that country makes deals with the chinese and the europeans and the americans for that oil they found in the nineties in that region - the indiginous people from that place are killed and now part of the african diasporah, because the government sells their ancient land to those companies. It is anno 2011, those people in DADAAB Kenya and other places... they are your age, my age, they don't have perspectives for their life except if the manage it to immigrate to the us eg. ... And they see their culture dying. We are losing our indiginous people on this planet! It hit me so... Like - how must that feel - living in a refugee camp and all. And we here, the western kids, are just acting soooooo stupid with all our useless techno parades, taking drugs, all our hobbies like skyte (that sports with the surfboard and the parachute) or mountainbike or bungee jumping or or or..... See.............. It is weird, I tell you, I feel like WE the rich kids should really do some selfreflection on Why our countries are rich! They are, really. Megadeath, that is what our world is built on!!!!! That is what hit me! Sry sounds like a little hippie, and maybe I am |

Well actually, what I tried to say in my post really is in the Tag list of this thread with political music.
If musicians (singers) really are a voice for their people, then it is got to be political at some point too. Thanks everybody for talking to me and letting me ramble. I will ask some guys I know about Napalm Death and Sepultura and Megadeth. Well go voting is the least we can do... and there is maybe more one like me can do. One day, I think, "our Race" or that colonial countries each with their colonialized countries, will have to discuss things out and maybe there will be some more "memorial walls" built for some other Millions that were killed by subjects of "our" race in order to get gold and raw materials to become rich. And that would be just - that is what I feel. I apreciate any artist to say this too. But I will shut up now. Thank you for letting me talk and dropping the names of those Bands. Ciaoxxx |

Anthrax- Indians
Metallica- Disposable Heroes ... and countless others, but those are two tracks that pop into my head. Incidentally, I think--at large-- heavy metal is very politically liberal and very outspoken about it. |

If we're talking about the "role of white men in this world", the best example that comes to my mind was on of the progressive metal bands did a concept album about Columbus' visit to the 'New World' and the results of it. I just can't remember who it was...
Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for, but I wasn't about to read your whole post in depth. Last edited by Electrophonic Tonic; 10-11-2011 at 08:52 PM. |

Hey, thank you all guys for your thoughts.
I will do my homework and check out the songs and the bands you mentioned to me. And I have checked out Wikipedia - there is a good article called Music and Politics. There are even Links to Songtitles just about Vietnamwar and and and. Plenty of material to go through. What a world. Also I googled for that columbus concept album - I found something called "28th parallel" by a (never heard it) band called serenade. |

This thread is extremely pointless, and confusing. Metal has always ranged from extreme bigotry(Euronomus and crew) to sarcastic bigotry(Stormtroopers of Death) to liberal political awareness(System of a Down) to complete inaneness(Cannibal Corpse).
Metal has no political philosophy, and that's why it's a strong genre. You can pick up a guitar, and write about whatever the hell you want, really. Doesn't signify anything(assuming the thread title is what Sophie is on about... because I'm confused as all Hell what she's asking).
